DEMOCRATS LIE SEEKING MORE OF OUR MONEY TO SPEND!

This Sunday on “Meet the Press,” Senator Chuck Schumer made the claim that he doesn’t know of a single Democrat that is saying “do nothing” to tackle our national debt and deficits.

Senator Chuck Schumer Claims Democrats Are Not Saying “Do Nothing”: “I don’t know a single Democrat who is saying 'do nothing,'” Schumer said. (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 5/29/11)

He must have selective hearing. It has been 762 days since Washington Democrats have last passed a federal budget. And Democrat leadership in both the Senate and House have advocated to increase the debt ceiling without spending reductions or reforms to take steps to tackle our country’s debt crisis.

Senate Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) Calls For A Clean Vote On Debt Ceiling  “Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Thursday he wants a clean vote to raise the debt ceiling. In contrast, Republicans have insisted they want the vote paired with serious budget reform measures, an idea President Barack Obama seemed open to at a bipartisan meeting at the White House Wednesday. ‘We don’t have to attach anything. It’s a debate. We can do it separate to that,’ Reid said of a long-term plan.” (Meredith Shiner, “Harry Reid Calls For Clean Debt Ceiling Vote,” Politico, 4/14/11)

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) Says Attaching Deficit Reduction To Debt Vote Is “Playing Games.” “This debt ceiling is a critical decision. It's about the reputation of the United States and the economy. And if we play games with it or play politics with it, and default on our national debt, we could plunge this country back in a recession with even deeper unemployment.” (Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday,” 5/15/11)

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY): “To Put Other Budgets Out There Is Not The Point.” “Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) downplayed the lack of a Democratic budget proposal Monday, saying there’s simply no room to deal with an alternative until the Senate has voted on the House GOP’s controversial proposal. ‘To put other budgets out there is not the point,” Schumer told reporters.’” (Sam Baker, “Schumer: Alternatives To Ryan Budget 'Not The Point,'” The Hill, 5/23/11)

House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Concerned That Deficit Reduction Plan Will Be Included In Debt Ceiling Vote. “Ultimately, House leaders, including Pelosi, are worried that a late June reporting date increases the odds that deficit-containment legislation will be attached to a debt-limit increase at the 11th hour in a deal reminiscent of the new six-month appropriations agreement struck by President Obama, Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).” (Jonathan Allen, “Pelosi Snaps At W.H. Adviser,”Politico, 4/14/11)

Democrat Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) On Clean Debt Limit Vote: “I’d Vote For That.” “Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Monday that voting against a clean measure would be ‘holding hostage the credit of the United States.’ ‘Well, when Mr. Cantor says it doesn’t have enough support, Mr. Welch has 114, of which I’m not one — I would vote for that,’ Hoyer said, referring to Vermont Rep. Peter Welch’s coalition of Democrats calling for a clean vote. (Jake Sherman, “GOP Floats Test Vote On Debt Ceiling,” Politico, 5/3/11)

Assistant Democrat Leader James Clyburn (D-SC) Does Not Want To Couple Vote With Deficit Reduction. “Clyburn, (D., S.C.), the assistant Democratic leader in the House and a member of the bipartisan group of lawmakers, said his preference is for lawmakers not to ‘couple’ a vote to raise the federal debt limit with other long-term issues, like tax reform or deficit reduction, that could take too long to finalize.” (Andrew Ackerman, “Rep. Clyburn: Aim For Debt Limit Increase By Third Week of July,” Dow Jones, 5/16/11)
