How much more does amnesty cost than illegal immigration
enforcement?
enforcement?
70 TIMES MORE
Have you ever noticed how Barack Obama and the left talk about amnesty for illegal immigrants, they never say it will help the economy? That's because simply allowing illegal's to stay here actually costs taxpayers far more than it would to enforce current immigration laws. IF the United States were to pass an amnesty bill, it would IMMEDIATELY cost $1 trillion, and a total of $3.7 trillion through the year 2056. America simply cannot afford this.
Mass legalization or, amnesty, is always talked about by this administration as if there is no cost to current citizens. However, this doesn't take into account that most illegal aliens are low-skilled and will never earn enough money to pay enough in taxes to cover all the benefits they receive (like welfare and health care). Amnesty would also make them qualify for all welfare and medical benefits offer by the local, state and federal government.
Low-skilled immigrants do work hard and pay some taxes. According to a report by The Heritage Foundation, "It is important to note, these families are rarely idle; they consistently work and pay taxes. However, the taxes they pay are seldom, if ever, sufficient to cover the cost of the government benefits they receive. In consequence, these households must be continually subsidized by other taxpayers." These subsidies will cost natural-born American citizens about $89.1 billion dollars a year, each year for the next 30 years.
Illegal immigrants make up about 41% of the low-skilled workforce, which means low-skilled illegal immigrants cost American taxpayers $36.5 billion a year. That comes out to $1.1 trillion over the next 30 years.
America does not have that kind of money, especially when the taxes paid by current illegal immigrants don't pay for the price of amnesty.
Conversely, simply enacting a simple enforcement bill could cost as low as $13.5 billion. A bill was presented at just such a cost in 2005 and would have forced removal orders to be carried out quicker and removal of those who re-entered after being deported. The bill would have been so effective that 1 million illegal immigrants marched against it. That really says something: enforcement doesn't have to bankrupt us.
$13.5 billion sounds a lot more reasonable than $36.5 billion every year and $1 trillion dollars immediately.

Tell Congress that if they were serious about getting our debt under control, we won't spend another TRILLION DOLLARS granting amnesty for people who have come into this country illegally.
For a one-time cost of $177 billion, an even stronger enforcement bill could have been passed in 2007. This bill would have increased sanctions against employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens and added more Criminal Alien Program officers to help weed out illegal's already detained in prisons.
Though more expensive, that bill still would have saved taxpayers about $146 billion dollars to date, more than making up for the expenditure.
We are already losing billions a year to illegal immigrants, and what does the Obama administration do? They talk about the DREAM Act and try to blame Republicans for not doing anything now about illegal immigration when Democrats completely controlled Congress for two years!
Obama is losing favor in the polls, so in order to take attention away from the terrible state of the economy under his watch, and to gain support back from Latinos, he is bringing up this issue and saying that his opponents are the reason that comprehensive immigration reform isn't currently being discussed.
It's political-pandering at its worst.
Obama would rather make hopeful speeches that give no specifics about what kind of reform he actually wants and then blame someone else when nothing gets done. It's been the mantra of his presidency from the beginning, and Americans are getting sick of it.

Let's break down those actual costs for allowing current illegal aliens to become U.S. citizens. Most illegal's are in their early 30s, which is why that $36.5 billion per year is valid for the next 30 years. At that time, these illegal immigrants will begin to retire. Since they are low-skilled and do not earn enough to support them after retirement as well as their families back home, American taxpayers will continue to foot their bills.
Currently, each retired illegal alien will most likely cost the U.S. taxpayers $17,000 per year. There are 10 million illegal immigrants currently in the United States. About 8.5 million of them will live to the retirement age of 67. The average life span is 18 years beyond that. So, $17,000 a year times 18 years is $306,000 per illegal. And since there will be 8.5 million illegal retirees that will cost an additional $2.6 trillion dollars, or $144.5 billion each year.
So, we have the current crop of illegal immigrants working for the next 30 or so years at a cost of $36.5 billion per year. That's $ 1.1 trillion dollars over the next 30 years. Add $2.6 trillion for the 18 years after that to support them through retirement and you're looking at a cost of $3.7 TRILLION to legal American taxpayers through the year 2056.
The Heritage Foundation calculated the net present cost to implement amnesty based on these figures at $999 billion dollars, just shy of a trillion.

Barack Obama's trillion dollar stimulus failed, and that was supposed to help current American citizens. Why should we throw another trillion dollars to help people who aren't even citizens - or here legally?
It's really sad that this is Obama's new war. Instead of trying to help American taxpayers he is going to focus all of his energy on decriminalizing illegal aliens. Basically he's just going to open up our borders and let everyone come in here and take our welfare and drive up our healthcare costs by using our emergency rooms...and it will be completely legal. This is already happening, but if Obama gets his way there will be no way to stop it. Hordes of new illegal immigrants will flood into our country and America will crumble beneath the weight of caring for them.
With your help, we'll help keep that from happening.
Sincerely,
Tony Adkins

P.S. If you don't want the burden of caring for illegal immigrants via your tax dollars, then you'll do everything you can to keep Obama from getting his way. The fact that this administration has suddenly made this a priority just a way to distract Americans from our crushing debt. We know that amnesty will only ADD to the debt. Please CLICK HERE to FAX every Member of the U.S. Congress to tell them that we will NOT grant amnesty at the expense of our nation!
