In the News

“U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio recently visited the Keys to witness the recent surge in migrants arriving from Cuba and Haiti and the response among federal, state and local officials. He joined the Coast Guard’s air operations and sat down with leaders from the various agencies. He also voiced criticism of the Biden administration’s ‘lax border security measures.’” (MASS MIGRANT LANDINGS IN THE KEYS TAKE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT, Keys Weekly, 1/19/2023)

“Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) introduced bipartisan legislation that would ban TikTok in the U.S. last month, though it is unclear how long it would take for the bill to pass Congress.” (Why more universities and schools in the US are banning TikTok, Today, 1/18/2023)

“Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) expressed similar concerns in a separate letter to banking giant JPMorgan Chase over its reported partnership with TikTok parent company ByteDance to develop payments technology, which he argued could expose consumer data to China.” (Businesses and schools are facing pressure to drop TikTok, too, Washington Post, 1/18/2023)

“In Dec. 2021, Sen. Marco Rubio introduced federal legislation that would do so in one very important area. His bill, the SPACE Act, would prevent U.S. Department of Commerce and NASA funds from going to companies with links to the CCP. Passing this bill is critical because Florida, as America’s space hub, is especially vulnerable to the federal government aerospace contractors that may be tied too closely to the CCP … With leaders of this new Congress stating that addressing the CCP is now one of their top priorities, Rubio should reintroduce the SPACE Act without delay.” (Florida is especially vulnerable to Chinese espionage | Opinion, South Florida Sun Sentinel, 1/17/2023)

“Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida replied: ‘The consequences of the Biden Administration’s indefensible gamble will fall directly on the American people.’ ‘Everyone knows Washington spending is out of control,’ Rubio added. ‘In the past, both sides have come together to be a part of the solution. That needs to happen again, but it won’t until the administration stops playing politics and comes to the negotiating table.’” (EXPLAINER: What Is the Debt Ceiling and Why Does It Matter?, U.S. News, 1/19/2023)
