ALERT – Bipartisan bill to stop Biden from lifting Title 42 at border!

Dear Conservatives,

Five Democratic and six Republican senators will introduce legislation today that would prevent the Biden administration from lifting Title 42 unless there is a detailed plan in place to stop an expected surge of migrants at the border.

Urge your Senators to pass the Public Health and Border Security Act of 2022!

The bill was drafted by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), chairperson and ranking member of the Senate's Border Management subcommittee, respectively.

President Trump issued the COVID-19 immigration ban in January 2020. Biden has continued the ban but has announced plans to lift it by May 23, a proposal that has drawn fierce criticism from lawmakers in both parties, especially Democrats vulnerable in reelection contests.

The other co-sponsors are Democratic Sens. Mark Kelly (AZ), Maggie Hassan (NH), Joe Manchin (WV) and Jon Tester (D-MT), and Republican Sens. John Thune (SD), John Cornyn (TX), Thom Tillis (NC), Shelley Moore Capito (WV) and Rob Portman (OH).

The bill tells the Biden administration to delay ending Title 42 until 60 days after the Surgeon General submits written notification to Congress formally rescinding the COVID-19 public health emergency and the national emergency. During that 60-day window, and no later than 30 days after the written notification is provided, the Biden administration must submit a plan to Congress addressing any influx of migrants.

The sponsors are introducing the bill but do not plan to seek a standalone vote on the legislation. They plan to attach it as an amendment to the Senate's $10 billion COVID-19 funding bill.
