NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend,
During this turbulent time, I would like to share with you some positive things happening around our district. If you would like to feature an article of your own, please feel free to send it in to our office - we value and appreciate your input.
Our educators have been working tirelessly in their efforts to preserve the well-being of their students. The Jackson County School District’s generosity and selflessness has helped foster positivity throughout their community. After schools were closed, Superintendent Larry Moore wanted to guarantee that all students who rely on school meals would not be neglected. With the help of Jackson County Food Service, transportation departments, and district school staff members, Superintendent Moore was able to successfully deliver meals to any student in need. I’ve been impressed by the efforts of our schools to care for our students during this time of uncertainty. On top of ensuring students have food while schools are shutdown, teachers and staff have also been keeping spirits and excitement high. Tyndall Elementary teachers hosted a parade for their students to encourage them through this difficult time.
For most, the student-teacher relationship is one like a family. Though they have been separated for some time, acts such as this preserve these relationships and further strengthen our education system. You can read more about the parade here.
In St. Marks, the National Wildlife Refuge announced that the historic St. Marks Lighthouse beacon was relit on May 2, 2020. For those who don’t know the significance of this beacon, it serves as cultural heritage to our area as well as an essential reference point for recreational and commercial mariners. As we continue taking measures to combat COVID-19, maintaining your mental health may become more difficult. I encourage you to visit this page if you are experiencing anxiousness or hopelessness.
Times may be difficult, but there is still plenty of good in our district and abroad. I encourage everyone to keep our men and women working to combat this crisis in the forefront of our minds. They deserve countless thanks for getting our area and our nation back to its best.
