Here are the death-risk stats, as of today:
NYC COVID:
- COVID illnesses diagnosed to date: 192,374
- COVID deaths of otherwise healthy persons under age of 18: 1 (risk of death = .000005, same as your lifetime risk of death by lightning)
- COVID deaths of otherwise healthy persons ages 18 – 44 = 21 (risk of death = .0001, same as your lifetime risk of death by choking on food)
- COVID deaths of otherwise healthy persons ages 45 – 64 = 69 (risk of death = .0004, same as your lifetime risk of death by smoke inhalation)
- COVID deaths of otherwise healthy persons ages 65 – 74 = 3 (risk of death = .00002, same as your lifetime risk of death by storm, bee sting, or hot surface)
- COVID deaths of otherwise healthy persons ages 75+ = 2 (risk of death = .00001, same as your lifetime risk of death by storm)
Age is not a risk factor for COVID death. Serious underlying health conditions are a risk factor for COVID death.
The extraordinarily vulnerable should quarantine themselves. The rest of the world needs to get back to church, school, and work.
