Adapting
As a mom of three juggling the tasks of assisting my boys' teachers in their new virtual learning, teaching my own college students in a new online format, working on my doctorate and managing a job all from my home office, my husband and I are adapting to a new normal, just like you are. Some of our adapting has included supplemental learning like the importance of the Census from census.gov and Luke Chapter 2. What a fun way to incorporate faith in learning.
Bonding
While we feel a loss of connection in a lot of ways, in actuality, we are now more connected than ever... in appreciation for teachers, and the jobs they do every day... in awe of healthcare workers and first responders, and their selfless acts of goodwill... and in expectation that those elected to government offices will make important decisions and lead. We may have decreased the number of people with whom we connect on a daily basis, but we are drawing closer to the ones we hold most dear, bonding and deepening the value of relationships in one common resolve and spirit.
Communicating
Real conversations are happening in households around this community and country as people have been asked to stay "safer at home." Friends are calling to check on one another and truly listening to the needs on the other end of the line. We are caring for the well-being of others and sharing each other's burdens. We are getting back to true communication, connection and relationship.
We've had family dinners and movie nights and have played countless games together. However, I am keenly aware that bit of Americana is lacking for so many, including thousands of children in Marion County Public Schools. Quality education impacts many issues families' face from homelessness to financial struggles or even abuse to addiction. Now more than ever, our schools and the education provided through them, can be the foundation on which our community's future is strengthened. As we equip our students to be innovative and collaborative, they will carry these lessons on into adulthood. We are in this together!
Sincerely,
|
