This week, Senator Rick Scott released a letter to the editors of Florida papers outlining steps that families can take to keep themselves safe and healthy, and help curb the spread of the Coronavirus in the U.S.
In the letter, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “The Coronavirus is a public health threat that is not going away anytime soon. Now is the time to get serious and take every precaution we can. Always cover your cough, regularly wash your hands, and drastically limit your contact with others. If you’re sick, or even feel sick, don’t travel. Airports and schools must start checking the temperature of everyone coming through; travelers with fevers took unnecessary risks and flew to Florida, spreading the Coronavirus. Localities must ensure those that our first responders and healthcare workers, who interact with the public, have the personal protective gear they need to keep themselves and the American people safe. Florida, with its large population, needs an abundance of tests and testing centers. After I introduced the Coronavirus Mobile Collection Site Act to expand access to mobile Coronavirus testing, President Trump agreed with my plan and is now developing mobile sites across the nation. We know seniors are especially susceptible to the Coronavirus, but young people are also not immune. It can infect anyone and cause them to become seriously ill; even if it doesn’t, young people can spread it to those with weaker immune systems. Social distancing is the best way that every individual can limit the number of infections. Avoid restaurants, bars, and crowded events. With so many seniors in Florida, everyone has to avoid large groups and only leave their house when necessary. We can survive this and come out on the other side, and we can curb the current outbreak, but we all must make serious adjustments to our everyday lives.”

As Congress begins consideration of the 'Phase 3' Coronavirus rescue plan, which would provide relief to Americans and big industries, Senator Scott released the following statement calling on Congressional leaders to break up the stimulus package and focus on getting relief to those Americans who need it the most.
Senator Rick Scott said, “We have to solve the spread of the Coronavirus. And until we do, we cannot get a true handle on the economic impact and what will be needed to energize our economy. All levels of government – federal, state, and local – need to be careful before they make major decisions impacting their budgets until we understand the true cost and effect of this virus. Right now, Congress needs to focus on the Americans that are hurt most by the Coronavirus – our small businesses, hourly workers and individuals whose livelihoods depend on tips. I’ve heard from countless Floridians and small business owners about the devastating impact this virus is having on their lives... These are the people we should be helping. We shouldn’t be bailing out large corporations that have enjoyed years of growth and prosperity. Senator Rick Scott announced his plan to introduce the American-Made Protection for Healthcare Workers and First Responders Act to ensure the United States builds its stockpile of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) so our first responders and healthcare workers have everything they need to keep themselves safe from Chinese Coronavirus as they care for the sick. Senator Scott is focused on ensuring we promote American-made goods and get Communist China out of the U.S. supply chain. The American-Made Protection for Healthcare Workers and First Responders Act would address the current PPE shortage and build the national stockpile of goods from American-based producers to eliminate our dependence on foreign adversaries’ supply chains during a crisis.
Senator Rick Scott said, “It is unacceptable that we are running a shortage of PPE for our nation’s healthcare workers and first responders as they work to combat the Coronavirus and any future outbreaks. We have to do everything we can to quickly get them the gear they need to stay safe. We cannot continue to rely on countries like Communist China, who lied about the Coronavirus and refuses to be a partner in solving this crisis, for critical supplies. This outbreak has shown why we need to end our reliance on foreign supply chains. As a nation, we need to finally take a stand and demand that Communist China is removed from our supply chain. Senator Rick Scott released the following statement calling on the attorneys general in all 50 states to take action against bad actors that are taking advantage of this crisis and price-gouging on personal protective equipment, which is desperately needed to save lives and keep our healthcare workers and first responders safe from the Coronavirus.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Personal protective equipment is one of the most important tools our healthcare workers and first responders have to protect themselves, and I continue to hear from hospitals and law enforcement officials that there is a limited supply and they are being price-gouged. This is unacceptable. I am calling on the state attorneys general to use their authority to go after these bad actors. I am also asking Attorney General Barr to immediately implement a federal process to take action against these criminals. Senator Rick Scott said, “We can’t forget that the best economic stimulus package is to stem the spread of Coronavirus. If we solve this problem, the economic problems will become much easier to solve. I’m glad both parties are coming together to help those affected by Coronavirus. Congress often acts slowly and it’s a real positive to see the urgency with which Congress is acting to get something done. There are many good things in this bill, including ramping up testing to ensure people who need a test can get one.
“But I am very concerned about some of the mandates in this bill that will hurt small businesses. And I’m concerned that adding layers of government bureaucracy, regulation and mandates will make it harder for help to get to the people that need it most – hourly workers, people who rely on tips, and workers in the gig economy. Whatever we pass should limit the unintended consequences for American job creators.
