Verily on January 17th., I wrote, "Please pray for my wellness ... this Friday afternoon
I became ill with cellulitus in my right calf and foot. Tomorrow morning instead of being
at the synagogue I'll be at a local Lakeland clinic for treatment." The 'clinic' diagnosis
was incorrect as I was now disabled using a cane to replace the loss of mobility of my
right leg. I prayed to Yeshua, "Please Lord, allow not the amputation of my right leg.
He answered quickly saying, "I have a room for you in which you will be healed."
I had asked Him about His pain he endured and He said, "I only suffered once" It was
after sunset on Jan. 22nd that I was admitted to Laleland Regional Medical Center,
a 1,200 bed facility rated in the top 5 of our great America. On the 23rd surgery was
performed by Dr. Benjamin Miller confirming the infection had not spread into the
bloodstream. All cultures came back clear ~ Hallellujah! Dr. Tabraue, who is in charge
of infectious disease identified the bacterium as Streptococcus and the IV script of
4,000,000 units of Penicillin was given QID. On February 3rd. I was dicharged. My level
5 pain has diminished and I am able to walk unaided. There is no fear in love; but perfect
love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Cellulitis Causes, Symptoms And Treatments

Cellulitis is a common bacterial skin infection and usually affects the legs or face. It can affect individuals of any age, race, and gender, but it is most commonly seen in the elderly and middle-aged. The infected skin usually appears swollen and red and is typically painful and warm to the touch. It often doesn't spread from person to person. Though it usually affects the surface of your skin, if untreated it can spread further to the lymph nodes and the underlying tissues, even causing sepsis in some cases, which is life-threatening. Many cases of cellulitis can be treated on an outpatient basis, while for some severe cases, admission may be needed in advance. Anyhow, it's important to seek medical attention to avoid any complications.
Cellulitis Cause #1: Bacteria
Streptococcus and Staphylococcus are two significant types of bacteria that can cause cellulitis, and they are also the ‘prime suspect’ of many other conditions such as strep throat, impetigo, folliculitis, abscess, etc. They’re commonly found on humans, but only do harm to your body when they invade the deeper layers of the skin or enter the bloodstream. These strains can be found on surfaces such as tables, clothing and other people. In addition to these two common types of bacteria, there are other strains that can also cause cellulitis. These include methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Haemophilus Influenzae, Clostridium, and the pneumococcus species.
Cellulitis Cause #2: Compromised Immune System
A human’s immune system, their skin, their tears, the acidity of their stomach, their white blood cells, they can all protect the body from being invaded by foreign pathogens. However, seniors, very young children and patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection have weaker immune systems, making it much more likely that they’ll contract an infection like cellulitis. Weaker defenses give pathogens such as streptococcus or staphylococcus a chance to invade and can cause problems like cellulitis. Inadequate nutrition can also be a contributing factor as proteins, vitamins, and minerals are required for optimal functioning of the immune system.
Cellulitis Cause #3: Cuts, Scratches, Wounds
Our skin is one of our primary defense systems, and a cut or a scratch in the skin will allow bacteria to invade. If bacteria enter the deeper layers of the skin, they will colonize the area and cause damage. Therefore, once you get hurt, you’d better instantly clean and sanitize your wound to lower the risk of infection. Luckily, most cases are minor as the infection is only the skin, but in some severe cases, the bacteria sneak into the bloodstream, leading to problems with joints, bones, and infections in organs such as the heart and brain, which can be life-threatening.
Cellulitis Symptom #1: Fever and Chills
One of the symptoms of cellulitis is fever as with any infection. When your body finds the ‘intruder,’ it will fight off the pathogen by increasing your body temperature, resulting in a fever. Chills appear due to body temperature increases, and the individual feels cold. Shivering may also occur as the repeated contraction of muscles produce heat.
Cellulitis Symptom #2: Redness, Swelling, Tenderness
There are four main symptoms of a cellulitis infection, including erythema (redness), pain, swelling, and warmth. In some cases, the affected area can look pitted like an orange peel, or even have fluid-filled blisters. If the infected area is left untreated, it can grow bigger and bigger. The symptoms mentioned above appear because of the invasion of bacteria and the effort of the body to fight off the infection.
Cellulitis Symptom #3: Lymphadenitis and Lymphangitis
Some cases of cellulitis will cause lymphadenitis and lymphangitis. The affected lymph node is usually painful and tender, and sometimes the skin overlying the infected lymph node looks red and feels warm. It may also be accompanied by other symptoms like fever, chills, rapid heartbeat, and headaches.
Cellulitis Treatment #1: Outpatient Care
Outpatient care involves oral antibiotic therapy and is sufficient in most cases of cellulitis. It usually takes 7 to 14 days of treatment. If there is no improvement, resistance or an alternative diagnosis should be considered. Prescribed pain medication can be used if you have intense pain or fever, but you’d better consult your doctor first.
Cellulitis Treatment #2: Intravenous Antibiotic Therapy
For severe cases of cellulitis, intravenous antibiotic therapy will be used if the patient is not responding to standard oral antibiotics, and doctors will select the specific type of antibiotic according to the suspected organism causing the infection. In general, individuals who need intravenous antibiotic therapy are those with weakened immune systems, or patients with a clinically significant condition like heart, liver, or kidney failure.
Cellulitis Treatment #3: Surgical Examination and Drainage
For some more severe cases of cellulitis, an individual can exhibit symptoms such as crepitus (which means that there is air beneath the skin), and circumferential cellulitis (cellulitis in a pattern that surrounds the entire limb such as around the calf), necrotic looking skin, abscess, and severe pain. In such circumstance, surgery and drainage are needed to help debride the dead skin tissue, drain the abscesses, and allow the other rest of the infected area to heal better. ###

I, Dr. Rubadue, Pathologist, have performed the Intraoperative Consultation and issued the above
diagnosis.
Gross Description:
A. Right leg lateral epidermis
Received fresh for frozen section is a 2.2 x 0.5 cm ellipse of red-tan skin which is entirely frozen
and submitted in 1 cassette.
B. Additional right leg tissue
Received in formalin is a 2.1 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm unoriented ellipse of white to tan-brown resilient
tissue which is serially sectioned along the short axis and submitted entirely in 1 cassette.
Diagnosis
A-B. Right leg: Histologic features consistent with purpura fulminans
(secondary to disseminated intravascular coagulation - see comment)
Comment:
The biopsies show abundant superficial microvascular thrombi associated with epidermal
blisters, acute hemorrhage, and fibrinoid necrosis. The histologic features of erythema
multiforme (i.e. Steven's Johnson syndrome) are not present. The features are consistent with
cutaneous manifestations of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). DIC secondary to an
infectious (e.g. bacterial infection) etiology is favored.

Cellulitis Causes, Symptoms And Treatments

Cellulitis is a common bacterial skin infection and usually affects the legs or face. It can affect individuals of any age, race, and gender, but it is most commonly seen in the elderly and middle-aged. The infected skin usually appears swollen and red and is typically painful and warm to the touch. It often doesn't spread from person to person. Though it usually affects the surface of your skin, if untreated it can spread further to the lymph nodes and the underlying tissues, even causing sepsis in some cases, which is life-threatening. Many cases of cellulitis can be treated on an outpatient basis, while for some severe cases, admission may be needed in advance. Anyhow, it's important to seek medical attention to avoid any complications.
Cellulitis Cause #1: Bacteria
Streptococcus and Staphylococcus are two significant types of bacteria that can cause cellulitis, and they are also the ‘prime suspect’ of many other conditions such as strep throat, impetigo, folliculitis, abscess, etc. They’re commonly found on humans, but only do harm to your body when they invade the deeper layers of the skin or enter the bloodstream. These strains can be found on surfaces such as tables, clothing and other people. In addition to these two common types of bacteria, there are other strains that can also cause cellulitis. These include methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Haemophilus Influenzae, Clostridium, and the pneumococcus species.
Cellulitis Cause #2: Compromised Immune System
A human’s immune system, their skin, their tears, the acidity of their stomach, their white blood cells, they can all protect the body from being invaded by foreign pathogens. However, seniors, very young children and patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection have weaker immune systems, making it much more likely that they’ll contract an infection like cellulitis. Weaker defenses give pathogens such as streptococcus or staphylococcus a chance to invade and can cause problems like cellulitis. Inadequate nutrition can also be a contributing factor as proteins, vitamins, and minerals are required for optimal functioning of the immune system.
Cellulitis Cause #3: Cuts, Scratches, Wounds
Our skin is one of our primary defense systems, and a cut or a scratch in the skin will allow bacteria to invade. If bacteria enter the deeper layers of the skin, they will colonize the area and cause damage. Therefore, once you get hurt, you’d better instantly clean and sanitize your wound to lower the risk of infection. Luckily, most cases are minor as the infection is only the skin, but in some severe cases, the bacteria sneak into the bloodstream, leading to problems with joints, bones, and infections in organs such as the heart and brain, which can be life-threatening.
Cellulitis Symptom #1: Fever and Chills
One of the symptoms of cellulitis is fever as with any infection. When your body finds the ‘intruder,’ it will fight off the pathogen by increasing your body temperature, resulting in a fever. Chills appear due to body temperature increases, and the individual feels cold. Shivering may also occur as the repeated contraction of muscles produce heat.
Cellulitis Symptom #2: Redness, Swelling, Tenderness
There are four main symptoms of a cellulitis infection, including erythema (redness), pain, swelling, and warmth. In some cases, the affected area can look pitted like an orange peel, or even have fluid-filled blisters. If the infected area is left untreated, it can grow bigger and bigger. The symptoms mentioned above appear because of the invasion of bacteria and the effort of the body to fight off the infection.
Cellulitis Symptom #3: Lymphadenitis and Lymphangitis
Some cases of cellulitis will cause lymphadenitis and lymphangitis. The affected lymph node is usually painful and tender, and sometimes the skin overlying the infected lymph node looks red and feels warm. It may also be accompanied by other symptoms like fever, chills, rapid heartbeat, and headaches.
Cellulitis Treatment #1: Outpatient Care
Outpatient care involves oral antibiotic therapy and is sufficient in most cases of cellulitis. It usually takes 7 to 14 days of treatment. If there is no improvement, resistance or an alternative diagnosis should be considered. Prescribed pain medication can be used if you have intense pain or fever, but you’d better consult your doctor first.
Cellulitis Treatment #2: Intravenous Antibiotic Therapy
For severe cases of cellulitis, intravenous antibiotic therapy will be used if the patient is not responding to standard oral antibiotics, and doctors will select the specific type of antibiotic according to the suspected organism causing the infection. In general, individuals who need intravenous antibiotic therapy are those with weakened immune systems, or patients with a clinically significant condition like heart, liver, or kidney failure.
Cellulitis Treatment #3: Surgical Examination and Drainage
For some more severe cases of cellulitis, an individual can exhibit symptoms such as crepitus (which means that there is air beneath the skin), and circumferential cellulitis (cellulitis in a pattern that surrounds the entire limb such as around the calf), necrotic looking skin, abscess, and severe pain. In such circumstance, surgery and drainage are needed to help debride the dead skin tissue, drain the abscesses, and allow the other rest of the infected area to heal better. ###

Received fresh for frozen section is a 2.2 x 0.5 cm ellipse of red-tan skin which is entirely frozen
and submitted in 1 cassette.
B. Additional right leg tissue
Received in formalin is a 2.1 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm unoriented ellipse of white to tan-brown resilient
tissue which is serially sectioned along the short axis and submitted entirely in 1 cassette.
Diagnosis
A-B. Right leg: Histologic features consistent with purpura fulminans
(secondary to disseminated intravascular coagulation - see comment)
Comment:
The biopsies show abundant superficial microvascular thrombi associated with epidermal
blisters, acute hemorrhage, and fibrinoid necrosis. The histologic features of erythema
multiforme (i.e. Steven's Johnson syndrome) are not present. The features are consistent with
cutaneous manifestations of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). DIC secondary to an
infectious (e.g. bacterial infection) etiology is favored.
