NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,
This week, we gathered with family and friends to celebrate and reflect on the beliefs that we hold closest. While enjoying the peace of the holiday season, I was also delighted to share good news with the Panhandle. I look forward to returning to Washington, D.C. to continue my work for you.

Please read about my week below:

Honoring Andy Anderson

This past week, I honored the life of Mexico Beach City Manager Andy Anderson. Just months ago, Mr. Anderson and I met to discuss the rebuild of Mexico Beach following Hurricane Michael. He was dedicated and reflected the resiliency of Mexico Beach in his attitude and efforts. It was an honor to know and work with him.

Sharing Good News with the PanhandleOn Monday, I spoke with WMBB Channel 13, the Panama City News Herald and WJHG Channel 7 and shared news of recently appropriated items that will greatly benefit the Panhandle. This includes $2.4 billion for the rebuilding of Tyndall Air Force Base and $312 million to facilitate continued construction of the Coast Guard's Off Shore Patrol Cutter at Eastern Shipyard in Panama City. We also secured $1.9 billion in additional agriculture disaster funding on top of the FY 2019 Disaster Supplemental and passed disaster tax relief. This measure was long overdue and will be instrumental to Hurricane Michael victims who are still struggling with the rebuilding process. An additional success for our district includes provisions for the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches that will allow them to continue their vital mission. The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches serve children in the state and have a location in Suwannee County.

Finally, I am happy to note that we secured $1.3 billion for the border wall along with 1200 additional United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents and hundreds of additional intake and processing personnel for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Despite the negativity and distractions created by House Democrats amid impeachment, I was excited to pass this appropriations bill that provides so much for our district. Click here to read more of my interview with the News Herald and here to see my interview with WJHG Channel 7.

Impeachment UpdateImpeachment was a hypocritical, partisan witch hunt that has no chance of conviction in the Senate. The entire process run by Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Adam Schiff was unfair and a shameful abuse of our Constitution. It was also a waste of time that should have been spent fixing health care and saving Americans' money on prescription drug prices. As we return to Washington D.C., I will remain outspokenly opposed to the continuation of this political theater.

Looking ForwardI am optimistic about all of the things our district, state and nation will accomplish in the upcoming year. In fact, I spoke with State Representative Jay Trumbull and State Senator George Gainer of Bay County this week, in preparation for the Legislative Session in Tallahassee in January. As they are excited about pursuing their legislative priorities, I too am excited to return to Washington, D.C. to dedicate my time and efforts to working on the issues that I know my constituents care about. I will have informative meetings in the district before returning and will arrive in Washington, D.C. enlightened and ready to serve. I look forward to sharing more good news as we progress into the new year.

Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. If you haven’t already, LIKE my Facebook page. You can also follow me on Twitter @DrNealDunnFL2.

Constituent Casework Corner
A constituent contacted the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) when money was being withheld from their federal retirement.  They were told it was because they were making too much money in their current job, however, the constituent was not working.  After sending OPM all the requested documentation proving they were not working, the money was still being withheld months later, so they contacted my office.  We were able to work with OPM to have the constituent's file reviewed, the OPM system error corrected, the withheld benefits released and the constituent's full monthly retirement reinstated.
