NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,
On Veterans Day we honor every individual who has dedicated themselves to serving our nation during wartime and during peace. Though this day is a remembrance, it should also serve as a reminder to honor the veterans in our lives and our communities every day. As the son of a veteran, the father of a veteran, and a veteran myself, I am committed to ensuring our veterans are getting the care they need and deserve. Thank you to America's veterans.

Please read about my week below:

Relief for Timber Producers
This week, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue Secretary Perdue announced a $380M block grant to the state of Florida to aid timber producers recovering from Hurricane Michael. The timber industry is vital to North Florida and unfortunately it took a hard-hit last year. Secretary Perdue’s announcement is welcome news. Our Florida foresters are our best environmental stewards and their livelihood depends on smart and sustainable conservation practices. These block grants will provide much-needed relief. Timber producers have unfortunately not been eligible for similar aid in the past, like in the 2017 WHIP program. I was happy to work with colleagues in Congress and Secretary Perdue to ensure that the necessary resources flow to North Florida to revitalize our timber industry.

Impeachment UpdateLiberals in Congress HATE President Trump and have been working to impeach him from day one - I'm working to ensure your voice is heard and the president is treated fairly. For months the House has repeatedly voted on do-nothing bills solely to target the president – accomplishing nothing of substance – instead of tackling the issues that are facing hardworking Americans.

Here is a quick update on what is not happening in Washington, while Democrats focus on impeachment:
• NO routine tax relief for Hurricane victims
• NO increased enforcement of our borders
• NO growing our economy
• NO lowering the cost of drug prices
• NO cracking down on the opioid epidemic
• NO fixing our health care system
• NO fixing the issue of surprise medical billing
• NO bills to fund the government for next year
• NO movement on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
• NO action on the new The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deal known as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)

Honoring Local Law EnforcementRecently, I honored the courageous efforts of Sgt. Jeff Hewitt and Deputy Jared S. Hewitt of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in the Congressional Record. These two officers went above and beyond during the Eastpoint fire last June and were recognized as the 2019 Law Enforcement Officers of the Year by the Florida Sheriff's Association. Thank you for all that you do Sgt. Jeff Hewitt and Deputy Jared Hewitt.
