Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released a harsh summary report in May revealing that an FBI Deputy Assistant Director had numerous unauthorized contacts with the media, accepted gifts from journalists and disclosed the ‘existence’ of sensitive information under court seal to the media.
Depends on the leak, one supposes, and who benefits from it. In the wake of the Department of Justice decision not to prosecute James Comey for leaking materials later classified to the New York Times, Judicial Watch received records on 14 referrals for leaks by other FBI personnel.
Recently we learned that over 100 million Americans’ sensitive personal information -- names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, credit histories, income information -- was stolen from a major U.S. financial institution from what is often touted as a new, “highly secure,” cloud-based data storage system.
