Amid new travel alerts for Europe, U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., blamed illegal immigration as a destabilizing force on the continent, adding that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would combat illegal immigration in America.

"A big part of the problem is this massive flow of illegal immigration into Europe," the senator and prominent Donald Trump backer told Fox News host Greta Van Susteren.  "President Trump, if he's elected, will take strong steps on that," Sessions said, including making sure "people are properly vetted."
Sessions, who doubles as Trump's national security advisor, said governments have to make it clear that people won't be allowed in their countries illegally. He advocated for "better refugee areas," such as creating safe zones in Turkey and Syria where refugees can live safely and in close proximity to their homes so they could return.
"It just cannot be the policy of the United States that when there's a war torn area, everybody's entitled to come here," Sessions said.
The State Department issued a travel alert for Europe on Tuesday, which expires Aug. 31.
"European authorities continue to take steps to assure public safety and disrupt terrorist plots," the agency said. "We work closely with our allies and will continue to share information with our European partners that will help identify and counter terrorist threats."

The department pointed out that France is set to hold the Euro 2016 soccer championship from June 10 to July 10 and the country is also hosting the Tour de France from July 2 to July 24. It said the events "represent potential targets for terrorists, as do other large-scale sporting events and public gathering places throughout Europe."
Meanwhile, the Catholic Church is holding World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland, between July 26 and July 31. Up to 2.5 million visitors are expected for the event. The State Department urged American citizens to "be aware that local infrastructure may be strained due to the large number of visitors," and that Poland "will impose border controls at all its national borders from July 4 to Aug. 4." It cautioned American visitors to Poland during that time to be prepared to show their passports "and undergo stricter security throughout Poland."
