- Hillary Clinton and Richard Nixon have a lot in common.
An op-ed in USA
Today this week makes the case that Hillary Clinton sounds
increasingly like disgraced former President Richard Nixon. Hillary, it
seems, is
borrowing Watergate-era talking points from the Nixon administration.
Indeed, Hillary increasingly sounds like Richard Nixon at the height of
his
scandals. From claiming to want to “get the facts out” to maintaining,
despite all evidence to the contrary, that “the facts are on
my side,” all while continuing to stonewall legitimate investigation
into her potential criminal behavior (yes, Hillary, it’s a crime to
mishandle certain kinds of classified information, whether you knew it
was classified at the time or not), Hillary has clearly learned much
from the
Nixon administration … including the need to destroy evidence. But that
shouldn’t be a surprise – Hillary got her start in
Washington decades ago, working for the congressional committee that was
working on impeaching President Nixon. Read the full article here: http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2015/09/01/hillary-clinton-new-email-released-state-department-column/71504450/ And the Hillary-Nixon comparisons are also popping up elsewhere in
the media. David Feith, writing in The Wall Street
Journal, makes another comparison to Nixon:
“Before assuming one of the most sensitive jobs in government, [Hillary
Clinton] devised a unique personal system to hide tens of thousands of
public documents. Later, facing a congressional investigation, she
deleted whatever she wanted, in effect tossing stolen goods into a
backyard
bonfire. The destruction of evidence recalls the 18-and-a-half minutes
of conversation excised from Richard Nixon’s Oval Office
recordings….”
- Clinton aide pleads the Fifth. That’s never a good sign.
You know your campaign is in trouble when your former staffers
are being served subpoenas and pleading the Fifth Amendment. Bryan
Pagliano, who
worked on Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign and later installed the
personal server in her New York home was subpoenaed by several
congressional committees to testify on what he knew and did about
Hillary’s private server – the House Select Committee on Benghazi, the
Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Senate Homeland Security Committee
have all summoned Mr. Pagliano. Rather than make plans for travel to
Washington, he had his legal counsel inform the congressional committees
that he will plead the Fifth Amendment and will refuse to testify.
Perhaps
more importantly, Mr. Pagliano appears not to be cooperating with either
the State Department Inspector General or, worst of all, the Federal
Bureau
of Investigation. For more on this story: https://stream.org/former-clinton-aide-helped-set-server-plead-fifth-avoid-subpoena/
- Carly Fiorina scores a big win with CNN debate.
Who says a good caterwaul from a presidential campaign can’t
make a difference? CNN, which will host the second GOP debate on
September 16 at the Reagan Library, has amended its debate criteria, in large part in response to pressure from Carly Fiorina’s
campaign. Fiorina has been steadily rising in the polls since her performance at the “happy hour” debate on August 6th,
but unfortunately, based on the debate criteria CNN released back in
May, Fiorina likely would not have been able to secure a spot on the
stage
– there just were not enough national polls during the month of August
to propel her into the top tier of candidates.
Rather than take
that lying down, the Fiorina campaign and numerous third-party
organizations (including Jenny Beth Martin on behalf of Tea Party
Patriots) pressured the RNC and CNN, requesting that they revise the
debate criteria
to more heavily weight polls taken since the August 6th debate. On Wednesday of this past week, CNN released its new criteria, and it now looks very likely that Carly
Fiorina will, in fact, be on stage on the September 16th debate. We will keep you posted on developments related to the next
debate.
- Jeb! offensive against Trump may be backfiring.
After such a weak
summer that his own donors are reported to be questioning the viability
of his campaign, Jeb! has been turning up the heat on Donald Trump – but
this week, voters in New Hampshire put Jeb! himself in the hot seat over
his views on immigration. Jeb!, who has been speaking Spanish on the
campaign
trail, is one of the nation’s most high-profile supporters of amnesty
for illegal immigrants – a big No-No for Donald Trump. Immigration
has been a signature issue for Trump, who continues to poll in first
place, and Trump’s supporters in New Hampshire and across the country
are
forcing Jeb! to defend his immigration policies.http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2015/09/03/jeb-bush-went-hard-after-trump-in-new-hampshire-then-he-took-some-heat-on-immigration/
That’s
all for this week. Keep fighting for freedom!
