If memory serves me correctly, it was exactly 20 years ago
today that I was “accidentally” elected Chairman of the Clark County Republican
Party…and I’ve been actively involved in conservative politics, full-time, ever
since.
Seems like only yesterday…
The election was held at the Showboat Hotel on Boulder
Highway…which is nothing more than an empty parking lot today.
I say I was elected accidentally because I was running
against two other guys and longtime party activists – Greg Millspaugh and Jerry
Winkler. Half the Central Committee
hated Winkler and the other half hated Millspaugh. I was the new kid on the block, so not enough
people knew me well enough to hate me…yet.
That situation has clearly changed considerably since then!
Anyway, two major factors led to my right place/right time election:
(1) George Harris, the outgoing chairman,
and Republican National Committeeman Tom
“Big Dog” Wiesner endorsed my candidacy and threw an open-bar reception in
my honor before the meeting. Nothing
like getting your voters “liquored up” before an election!
(2) Because it was a
three-way race, no candidate received 50 percent-plus-one on the first
ballot. Now, our team knew the rules and
knew that would mean a second ballot run-off election. So our peeps stuck around. But a considerable number from the other two
teams thought it would be a one-and-done plurality election…so they went home
right after they cast their first ballot.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
I should point out that back in those days the party didn’t
have the benefit of a Republican governor.
But considering what the party has in a governor today, I dare say we
were better off 20 years ago.
LET ME BE CLEAR!
For those of you who generously donated $100 or more to
Citizen Outreach’s end-of-year fundraising appeal, the first batch of my new
Obama book titled, “Let Me Be Clear: The
Greatest Accomplishments and Most Significant Successes of America’s First
Half-Black President” have shipped and I should receive them sometime this
week.
Once received, I’ll autograph five of them and get them in
the mail to you ASAP.
Here’s what two prominent conservatives have said about “Let
Me Be Clear”…
“Chuck has done a masterful job of encapsulating the true essence of
the Obama presidency. Let Me Be Clear is a must-read book for conservatives,
liberals, moderates and taxpayers of all political stripes.”
– Grover Norquist, President, Americans for
Tax Reform
“Let me be clear: ‘Let Me Be Clear’ is the most definitive,
authoritative chronicle of the successes of the Obama presidency. Generations
of presidential historians will rely on this book as an invaluable resource for
assessing the legacy of America’s 44th U.S. president.”
– Craig Shirley, author of “Rendezvous with
Destiny: Ronald Reagan and the Campaign That Changed America”
This book is not available in stores or on Amazon. The retail price is listed at $7.06 trillion
per book. But I expect to offer a
significant discount to the public once this first-run batch is sent to those
who made that end-of-year contribution.
Stay tuned for details…
GOV. SANTA-VAL’S END-OF-YEAR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS
Some folks have been digging through the end-of-year
campaign finance reports and, wow, did freshman Assemblyman Chris Edwards (RINO-Clark) ever get a
juicy Christmas present from Gov. Brian
Sandoval (R&R-Advertising)!
Just before the holidays Sandoval whipped out the ol’
checkbook and wrote Edwards a fat donation of $5,000 – the single largest
post-election donation Edwards received.
Edwards, as best as I can tell from an initial review of the C&E
reports, is one of only two legislators to enjoy such generosity from Gov.
Santa-val.
I guess it’s safe to assume Mr. Edwards’ vote for Santa-val’s
billion dollar tax hike has now been sufficiently bought and paid for.
Speaking of Edwards when this guy isn’t talking out of both
sides of his mouth he’s talking out of his arse. In response to requests from Nevada taxpayers
asking him if he supports the governor’s billion dollar tax hike, Edwards is
trying to turn the tables on them by demanding that they propose spending cuts
instead.
What a dip-squat. As if
it’s the job of his constituents to do the job he was elected to do as a
supposedly conservative Republican.
That said, if Edwards or any of the other weasels trying to
find a way to justify voting for Sandoval’s billion dollar tax hike really want
to find ways to cut/streamline government, all they have to do is look at
former Gov. Jim Gibbons’ SAGE Commission
report and NPRI’s “Piglet Book.”
Oh, and by the way, guess who the other legislator is who
got the other $5,000 Christmas stocking suffer from Santa-val?
Freshman Assemblyman Derek
Armstrong (RINO-Clark).
Now why would the governor give this unknown freshman
Assemblyman $5,000?
Well, because Armstrong was appointed by Speaker-of-the-Weak
John Hambrick (R-Clark) to head up
the Assembly Taxation Committee after Hambrick yanked conservative
Assemblywoman Michele Fiore (R-Clark)
off as chair of that committee, that’s why!
Armstrong, like Edwards, is another bought-and-paid-for vote
for Santa-val’s billion dollar tax hike, which will slide through Armstrong’s Tax
Committee as smoothly as crap through a goose.
Those two fat $5,000 donations to Edwards and Armstrong
create a huge conflict of interest, if only in public perception. If either of these guys had an ounce of
integrity in their political bodies, they’d both return Santa-val’s check.
Don’t hold your breath waiting.
DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS
Get this…
I had breakfast yesterday morning with Democrat County
Commissioner Tom Collins, who
graciously picked up the check. But he
tried to pay with his credit card…and the waitress asked him for a photo ID!
So you need a photo ID to pay for a $15 breakfast with a
Visa card at the Omelet House…but not to vote in an election? Makes perfect sense (not).

Speaking of photo ID, not only did Gov. Brian Sandoval (R&R-Advertising) throw fellow Republican
Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske
under the bus by not consulting with her, or even giving her a heads up, about
his proposed gross receipts/business license tax, but in an interview on Friday
he claimed he never told Cegavske that he supports her bill to require photo ID
to vote.
If you’re a conservative and ever find yourself in a foxhole
with Sandoval, avoid the Christmas rush, kiss your arse goodbye and enjoy
eternity in Elysium.

Not satisfied with screwing up our kids’ education in grades K-12, Gov. Brian Sandoval’s
(R&R-Advertising) Department of Education has submitted a bill, SB25, that “revises
provisions related to public schools.” An
amendment in Section 2, Number 7 declares that the Superintendent of Public
Instruction shall…
“Coordinate educational programs for children from birth through
prekindergarten.”
Un-freaking-believable.
Sandoval wants the public schools to begin (mis)educating our kids from
the time they come out of the WOMB!!
Can you imagine the outrage from Republicans if a Democrat
governor proposed such an absurdity?
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“During each of the legislative sessions throughout the
Great Recession, the Nevada Legislature has looked for ways to increase taxes…
This is the wrong approach.” - Assemblyman Chris Edwards during the 2014
election campaign
“I am against raising property taxes or renewing taxes which
have sunsetted. Government should
operate within its proper, limited scope and live within its current budgetary
and tax scheme.” - Assemblyman Erv Nelson during the 2014 election campaign
“I believe that we need to remove ourselves from these
‘Sunset’ taxes, as originally intended, particularly as the economy continues
to recover.” - Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill during the 2014 election campaign
“I oppose all three of these tax increases because each will have a negative impact on jobs
and the state’s economy. The way to increase revenues is by increasing economic
growth and making all of our citizens wealthier, not by raising taxes.” - Assemblyman
Derek Armstrong during the 2014 election campaign
“Instead of always looking to raise taxes we must work on
growing our economy…” - Assemblyman Stephen Silberkraus during the
2014 election campaign
“There are too many legislators that want to continue with
the same old tax-and-spend policies. If
Nevada’s residents are being forced to cut back and spend their money wisely,
then the government should do the same.” - Assemblywoman Melissa Woodbury during the
2014 election campaign
