NEVADA - ASSEMBLYWOMAN MICHELE FIORE NAMED TO TAXATION POST

Friends,
I have to say that I am so impressed with our Republican Assembly Caucus. Immediately after the election, our entire caucus met in Carson City to begin training and working on our legislative agenda.
I am excited to welcome Erv Nelson, John Moore, David Gardner, Shelly Shelton, Chris Edwards, Derek Armstrong, Stephen Silberkraus, Jill Dickman, Victoria Seaman, Brent Jones, Robin Titus, PK O’Neill and Vicki Dooling, our new freshman legislators, to the team.
We have a lot of work ahead of us, especially as we also take over leadership of the committees. Here is a brief description of each committee:

Speaker of the Assembly – Assemblyman Ira Hansen
Ways and Means – Assemblyman Paul Anderson
The Assembly Committee on Ways and Means examines all department budgets, appropriation requests, and appropriation bills. Measures with fiscal notes may also be referred to the Committee for review.
Taxation – Assemblywoman Michele Fiore
The Assembly Committee on Taxation has jurisdiction over measures affecting state and local revenue and monetary policy.
Commerce and Labor – Assemblyman Randy Kirner
The Assembly Committee on Commerce and Labor has jurisdiction over measures affecting primarily certain commercial and property rights and transactions, trade regulations and practices, labor and industrial relations, professions, occupations, businesses, banks, financial institutions and other related organizations, insurance, energy, certain public utilities, and similar entities.
Education – Assemblywoman Melissa Woodbury
The Assembly Committee on Education has jurisdiction over measures affecting the system of public instruction, K-12 education, and higher education, except measures affecting state and local revenue.
Government Affairs – Assemblyman John Hambrick
The Assembly Committee on Government Affairs has jurisdiction over measures related to government, public affairs, and veterans issues.
Health and Human Services – Assemblyman James Oscarson
The Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services has jurisdiction over measures related primarily to public welfare, health care, and safety.
Judiciary – Assemblyman Wesley Duncan
The Assembly Committee on Judiciary has jurisdiction over measures affecting primarily the State Judicial Department, justice courts, civil practice and procedure, remedies and special actions and proceedings, business associations, securities and commodities, certain commercial instruments and transactions, certain property rights and transactions, domestic relations, wills and estates, guardianships, conservatorships and trusts, criminal procedure, crimes and punishments, gaming, and measures affecting correctional institutions and the ongoing supervision of offenders.
Legislative Operations and Elections – Assemblyman Lynn Stewart
The Assembly Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections has jurisdiction over measures affecting Legislative operations and elections policy.
Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining – Assemblyman John Ellison
The Assembly Committee on Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Mining has jurisdiction over measures affecting natural resources, agriculture, and mining policy.
Transportation – Assemblyman Jim Wheeler
The Assembly Committee on Transportation has jurisdiction over measures related to highways, roads, bridges, vehicles, and aeronautics.
I am honored to have been selected by my peers to lead the Assembly Committee on Taxation. Our purpose will be to work with Governor Brian Sandoval and our counterparts in the Senate to review Nevada’s tax system and identify ways to better serve the people of Nevada. As the chairwoman, I will always make sure the voices of Nevadans and Nevada business owners are heard.
We have a great year ahead of us, and I can’t wait to share more details as we finish our legislative agenda. Our next deadline for submitting BDRs (Bill Draft Requests) is December 10th, so I will have an update for you soon. I will give you a sneak peak that education will be a top priority of our caucus, including school choice and school vouchers to give parents and students more options for an education that meets their needs.
As always, if you have ideas or questions about legislation, please let me know. Some of the greatest bills I have put forward have come from our neighbors.
I’ll be in touch soon.
Yours truly,
