SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 09/11/2014

MUTH’S TRUTHS

--> The NFL has been losing me for a couple years now.  Penalizing players, not for cheap shots, but hard shots ("That's why girls don't play the game, Coach.").  Adopting TSA-like security measures to enter an NFL stadium.  Annoying NBC announcer Chris Collingsworth pushing the Washington Redskins to change its name.  Bob Costas pushing gun control during a halftime show.  Referee strike.  Dog-killer Michael Vick.  And now the totally botched handling of the Ray Rice incident.

I miss Johnny Unitas.

--> Read this tweet by an Erin Bilbray-withouth-the-Kohn supporter and had to laugh: “ErinBilbray's agenda: Job creation; honoring our seniors and Veterans; and strengthen the middle class.”

O...M...G.  She’s stolen Rep. Joe Heck’s agenda!

--> The Nevada Legislature is chugging along towards its inevitable rubber-stamping of the Tesla gigaway deal; a deal I’m happy Tesla is getting but wish was being extended to EVERY business in Nevada – especially businesses that have been operating in our state since their inception.  But get this…

One of the conditions of the Tesla deal is that 50 percent of the workers – both for the initial construction and the ultimate operation – must be legal Nevada residents.  And to ensure compliance, the Las Vegas Review-Journal is reporting that job applicants will be required to provide “A Nevada driver’s license and other proofs.”

WHOA!  Haven’t Democrats been telling us that requiring a driver’s license to vote was discriminatory and an effort to suppress minority voters?  So how is it OK to require a driver’s license to get a job at Tesla but not OK to require a driver’s license to vote?

--> As mentioned here in Silver State Confidential in the past, Stations Casinos has been on a jihad to hamstring Dotty’s neighborhood taverns, which Stations sees as competition in the locals' market.  As such the gaming giant has claimed that Dotty’s aren’t "real" taverns because they don’t have real restaurants and only have one employee on staff at a time.

So I found it interesting when I stopped into the Wildfire tavern in Anthem last week and found just one employee on duty and no real restaurant.  Actually, what was interesting is that I heard Stations bought and owns the operation, which was formerly Doc Holidays!

Hypocrisy you can cut with the knife.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“It's not Obama who is delusional.  He's just destroying America.  It's the American people who are delusional by refusing to see it.” - Jane Sherry Gardner

“Rigorous scrutiny of the Tesla project has been lacking in Nevada, so the implications of the Tesla project for workers, the environment, taxpayers, quality of life, and other factors are unknown.” – Dennis Myers, Reno News & Review

“(Tesla CEO Elon) Musk wants a fair deal, so let’s give him one. Tesla builds its plant, and pays all its taxes, just like [most] every other business. In exchange, the state and local jurisdictions protect it—if somebody breaks in, we’ll send the cops; if it catches on fire, we’ll send firefighters. If Tesla gets sued, the company can use our courts and business-friendly laws to defend itself. And northern Nevada’s outdoor beauty should make attracting workers easy. But the company shouldn’t get a single tax dollar, not while the state has the moral and legal obligation to educate children, take care of the mentally ill, build and maintain roads, and keep bad guys in prison.” – Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Steve Sebelius
