RedState Briefing 06/11/2014

Morning Briefing
For June 11, 2014

Why Eric Cantor Lost
Cantor lost his race because he was running for Speaker of the House of Representatives while his constituents wanted a congressman. The tea party and conservatives capitalized on that with built up distrust over Cantor’s other promises and made a convincing case Cantor could not be trusted on immigration either. By trying to be both a Virginia congressman and a worthy successor to the Speaker in K-Street’s eyes, Cantor made it easy for conservatives to mount an under the radar case against him. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

Ted Cruz, It Is Time for You To Listen
Ted, it’s time for you to lead. #MakeDCListen was so 2013. It is time for you to go to Mississippi, get Chris McDaniel across the finish line, and #MakeDCFear. You’re either leading or you’re Cantoring your way into the White House. Last night we saw how well that strategy works. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

DONATE TO DAVE BRAT NOW
I’ve been encouraging people to support Dave Brat, but I honestly didn’t spend any time here on his campaign. I, like pretty much everyone else, was pretty sure he had not one chance in hell. He was outspent by more than 20 to 1. No one knew who he was.

And he won. Praise God! It is a great day for the Republic. Many of us sat on the sidelines wishing him well, telling people to support him, but not beating drums for him as we should have. Now we all need to send him cash. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

Heritage Action is a Better Measure of Conservativism Than the American Conservative Union
In contrast to the American Conservative Union, Heritage Action for America takes a more comprehensive approach to its scorecard, it does not try to help Republican leadership look good, and is a better barometer of a congressman’s conservativeness. The ACU had Eric Cantor at a 95%. Heritage Action for America has him at 53%.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post

The Great American Miracle
I literally don’t know what to say and am at a loss of words.

I’ve spent the past few weeks working with people on the ground in VA-7 to help Dave Brat turn in a strong showing.  I originally thought the notion of Eric Cantor being vulnerable was a joke, but Dave Brat, a great American patriot, rose to the occasion.  It became clear to me that he would probably crack 45% going into tonight’s election, but the thought of him winning was too tantalizing to even imagine.

The results speak for themselves.  Cantor outspent Brat $993,000 to $76,000 in last seven weeks of the election.  Yet, Brat had enough money, with the help of a small Super PAC and Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck, and Mark Levin, to get out his message. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

Doddering Old Man Thad Cochran Uses Angry Words Against Chris McDaniel
If Cochran had ever shown as much vigor against this administration, he wouldn’t be about to get his butt kicked by the conservatives in Mississippi. At least he will soon have more time to read the paper and figure out what is going on. Just like Barack Obama. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

Christian baker sentenced to re-education for opposing homosexual marriage
An Administrative Law judge in Colorado named Robert Spencer has issued an extraordinary rule in the case of Masterpiece Cake Shop which refused to help two homosexuals make a mockery of marriage. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

The Nanny State Hates Your Cheese
If you are anything close to a foodie, you know you have to buy imported parmesan cheese to get a good parmesan flavor. American cheeses like parmesan must be pasteurized to be sold in interstate commerce. The flavor is much saltier without the good tangy taste of an unpasteurized parmesan. But, humorously, imported unpasteurized parmesan and other cheeses are available. There is a noticeable difference in flavor, but also a noticeable price point.

It is one of many silly FDA rules related to food in this country. But they are not stopping there. Now the FDA is cracking down on artisanal cheese production in the United States.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post
