Special Report from Kiev - Chosen People Ministries
Shalom dear friend in the Messiah,
I recently returned from a trip to Kiev, where I participated in the European section meeting of the Lausanne Consultation on Jewish Evangelism. This group has existed for thirty years, and was initiated by Jewish mission leaders involved with the Lausanne Consultation on World Evangelism. The meetings for the European group were held in Kiev April, 28 - May 2, 2014.
There were many reasons for the event to be held in Kiev, not the least of which is because there has been a growing, authentic and indigenous Messianic Jewish movement in Ukraine - centered in Kiev - which began in 1989 at the beginning of Perestroika. The conference statement is well worth reading, and reflects the sentiments of the attendees.
The history of the Jewish people of Ukraine is significant. Ukraine was part of the Pale of Settlement, where Jews were allowed to live, and included land that is now part of Russia, Poland, Romania, Belarus as well as today's Ukraine. The borders were quite fluid for many years, and so many Jewish people's "country of origin" frequently changed. However, the borders stabilized after 1945 and the formation of the Soviet Union. The area has always been important to Jewish evangelism, as more than ten million Jewish people lived in the region before World War II. [...]

Children Kidnapped by Hamas Terrorists !!!
Hamas Says ‘Keeping All Options Open’ as Israel Ratchets Up Search for Abducted Teens
“All options of the Palestinian resistance remain open,” a
Hamas official vowed Monday, as Israel strove to find and free
three teens kidnapped Thursday near Hebron.Hamas Says ‘Keeping All Options Open’ as Israel Ratchets Up Search for Abducted Teens
“We warn the Zionists against committing any more stupidities, including their violations of international laws by their arresting of the Parliament speaker,” spokesman Mushir al-Masri said from Gaza.
Israeli security forces have, so far, arrested over 150 Palestinians, including all of the Hamas representatives in the newly formed Palestinian Unity Government, led by Palestinian Authority (PA) President and once-rival Fatah chief, Mahmoud Abbas.
“The resistance is the only route to freeing the prisoners,” al-Masri said of those incarcerated in Israeli prisons for security offences, primarily for committing and planning terror attacks.
“The lives of the three (Israeli teens) are not worth those of the 5,000″ prisoners, al-Masri said, referring to Eyal Yifrach, 19, Gilad Shaar, 16, and Naftali Frenkel, 16, who were abducted from a hitchhiking post in Gush Etzion south of Bethlehem and are believed to be held captive somewhere in the southern West Bank.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Monday demanded that Abbas “assist in returning the abducted youths and in apprehending the kidnappers. The Hamas kidnappers came from territory under Palestinian Authority control and returned to territory under Palestinian Authority control.” [...]
Three Israeli
Teens Kidnapped by Hamas Terrorists
"He
alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress. I will
not be shaken." (Psalm 62:6)
Israel's Prime Minister,
Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Sunday that the radical
Islamist terrorist group Hamas has kidnapped three Israeli
youth, Gilad Shaar, 19, Naftali Frenkel, 16, and Eyal
Yifrach, 16, in the Judea and Samaria region of Israel.
The teens were last seen on Thursday.
One is an American, although his identity has not yet been
released.
Palestinians
in Gaza celebrated their abduction in the streets,
handing out cakes and candies. An obnoxious cartoon
posted on the Facebook page of Fatah, the party of
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas,
characterized the Israeli students as rats caught on a
fishing line with three hooks.
Please pray for the three Israeli teens abducted by Hamas terrorists on
Thursday. From left to right, they are Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar,
and Naftali Frenkel.
"This attack should surprise no one
because Hamas makes no secret of its agenda. Hamas
is committed to the destruction of Israel and to carrying
out terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians—including
children," Netanyahu said in a statement issued
yesterday.
"Instead of abiding by his international obligation to disarm Hamas, President Abbas has chosen to make Hamas his partner," he emphasized. "Israel holds the Palestinian Authority and President Abbas responsible for any attacks against Israel that emanate from Palestinian-controlled territory. The Palestinian claim that the Palestinian Authority cannot be held responsible for an attack that took place in an area under Israeli security control is patently absurd.
"When an attack takes place in Tel Aviv
or in London or in New York—all these places have been
attacked by terrorists—the question is not where the attack
takes place. The question is where it originated. The kidnappers in this case
set out from territory controlled by the Palestinian
Authority, and the PA cannot absolve itself of its
responsibility."
During an overnight operation Saturday,
the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arrested 80 Palestinian
suspects in connection with the abduction.
The IDF searches for the kidnapped teens.
"Terrorists are kidnapping innocent
Israeli children, while Israel saves the lives of sick
Palestinian children at our hospitals," Netanyahu added.
Please pray that God's
supernatural protection will surround and safeguard
these teens and that Israel will
quickly find and rescue them. Please also pray for peace
in Israel.
This is not the only Hamas terrorist
activity since Palestinian Authority President
Mahmoud Abbas installed the new Fatah-Hamas unity
government on June 2.
Southern
Israel was hit Wednesday with the second rocket attack
launched from the Gaza Strip since this government was
sworn in. Four more rockets were launched from Gaza on
Saturday.
The United States denounced Wednesday's
attack as “unprovoked aggression,” although it said it would
still work with the new government.
“We condemn all rocket fire from Gaza.
It is unprovoked
aggression against civilian targets and is totally
unacceptable,” State Department
spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, noting that there were no Hamas
members in the new Palestinian government.
The attacks come just days after it was
reported that the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are
continuing to arm themselves with medium and long-range
missiles.
On Monday, the Israel Defense Forces
Chief of General Staff Benny Gantz told those gathered at
the Herzliya Conference, an annual national security
gathering, that although he doesn't believe the Hamas
government is looking for another war, the terrorists there
are replenishing their stockpile of rockets.
Despite the unity government, Hamas is still sovereign in Gaza. Even after
the unity government was announced, it declared that it would continue its
struggle against Israel and would not lay down its arms.
Gantz said that Israel’s
deterrence power has kept terrorism in check in the north,
including Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based terrorist
organization now fighting in Syria’s civil war on the side
of President Assad.
Describing
Hezbollah as the most heavily armed force in the region,
second only to Israel, Gantz told the conference that it
receives its arms from Iran and that only “the U.S., China,
Russia, Israel, France, [and] the UK,” are more heavily
armed. (Jewish Press)
Speaking at the same conference, Brig.
General Itai Brun, the director of the research and analysis
branch of IDF Intelligence said that between Hamas,
Hezbollah and other Gaza terrorist groups, there are an
estimated 170,000 missiles pointed at Israel.
These replace the thousands that
Hezbollah fired at Israel in the 2006 Lebanon War and those
destroyed in the IDF 2012 Pillar of Defense operation. He
said that although most of these are short-range, they have
improved guidance systems thanks to Iran.
Noting that Assad holds a 3:1 advantage
over the rebels in fighting power, Brun also warned that 80
percent of the rebels fighting in Syria have “a clear
Islamist agenda” many of whom want to see Syria become a
fundamental Islamist state. (Arutz 7)
Large portions of the Golan
Heights border with Israel. From this vantage point,
terrorist activity toward Israel has been increasing.
(Times of Israel)
Gantz said that democracy in Syria was
falling apart and the situation was about to collapse.
“The radical axis is growing stronger in
the area, as is Jihad,” he warned.
And while Brun is “cautiously optimistic”
about the P5+1 (six world powers organized in 2006 to deal
with Iran’s nuclear threat) efforts to keep Iran from going
nuclear, Gantz reminded everyone that Iran has not given up its
long-term goal of destroying Israel.
Gantz best summed up the unpredictable
reality of the region saying, “We must remain vigilant and
prepared, but we also cannot tell you what the story will be
tomorrow. If we are sitting and enjoying a cup of
espresso at 9:30 a.m., by 10:30 a.m. we could be at war.”
(Times of Israel)
“We have no alternative but to stand here
as a strong and united nation,” he added.

Reuven Rivlin Elected as
Israel's 10th President
“Select from all the
people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate
bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one
thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.” (Exodus
18:21)
After seven years of leadership from
Israel’s beloved President Shimon Peres,
Israel has a new president-elect, Reuven "Rubi" Rivlin.
Right-leaning Rivlin, who is from the Likud party,
garnered 63 votes for the presidential seat on Tuesday,
10 more than Hatnua contender Meir Sheetrit.
Israeli President-elect Reuven Rivlin conveys his thanks to everyone after
his win at the Knesset (Israeli parliament).
Peres called Rivlin on Tuesday evening to
welcome him to the post.
"Rubi, Your Excellency the next President of the
State of Israel, you are right for this role,” Peres
told Rivlin. “It is a position that brings with it
responsibility, you have to consider your every word and
every action, but you
will do it successfully because you are, to your
core, a good person.”
"You deserve this honor, and I'm glad of it," he
said to the president-elect. "I cannot envision a
higher cause then serving the people faithfully,
honestly and in good hope, and you are equipped with all
these features." (Times of Israel)
Peres also offered his support in the transition
period.
“There is a handover period and I am at your
disposal from this moment onwards with whatever you
need. My team and I will do everything we can to ensure
the handover is conducted honorably and professionally
and we do it gladly," he said.
Thanking Peres, Rivlin said, "I am stepping into big
shoes, it won't be easy to be the 10th President after
your presidency in which you’ve done a lot of good for
humanity."
Israel's ninth president, Shimon Peres
Peres, who is 90, is apparently wrapping up
67 years of public service. He is much
admired for his commitment to the pursuit of peace, for
which he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994,
alongside then Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Born in Belorussia (then, Poland), Peres and his
family fled to pre-state Israel in 1934, where he
studied agricultural science and joined the party of
Zionist leader David Ben Gurion.
The Rivlin clan, which can trace their lineage to an
ancestor in 1550 Vienna and to the 18th century’s
esteemed Gaon (Sage) of Vilna, claim to be the first
family to settle in Ottoman Palestine.
"Most families
here have short histories, yet the Rivlins go back
to the very beginnings of modern Jewish life,”
said historian Muki Tzur, who is also part of the Rivlin
clan. “And in a country with so much loss and grief, a
large family like this, with so many achievements, is a
symbol of collective hope." (HaAretz)
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with President-elect Reuven
Rivlin on Wednesday at his official residence in Jerusalem and
congratulated him on being elected to the office.
Jerusalem Shines in
Its 6th Festival of Light
"For Zion's sake I will not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness go forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burns." (Isaiah 62:1)
Jerusalem's 6th annual Festival of Light is inspiring the world to visit Israel's ancient capital city.
The Old City has been aglow since Wednesday, as 17 acclaimed international light artists from the United States, Portugal, France, Germany and Holland skillfully project dramatic 3-D images and movies against its ancient stone walls and present interactive displays throughout the city.
At least 300,000 visitors are expected to see the 27 shows and displays on four miles of light trails, from the “Damascus Gate Chrysalis” in the north, along the city’s western wall’s “Sculpture Garden” and variable lighted palm trees to Jaffa Gate’s “Garden of Dreams,” which is designed with tens of thousands of LED lights.

The 2014 House of Cards, which is located at Hurva Square and created
by Gaston Zahr and Merav Eitan, highlights central Biblical characters.
From Jaffa Gate, visitors can continue to Zion Gate in the south or weave through the Old City where they might enter a forest of interactive lighted columns or watch a circus on the walls of Batei Machseh Square, among other performances.
This light art extravaganza rivals those in United Arab Emirates, Japan, China, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, among other nations.
"Jerusalem is reclaiming her proper status as an international cultural center and magnet for large numbers of young people, tourists and visitors, who are coming to enjoy the intermingling of a glorious past history and heritage with a lively and colorful present," Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said, emphasizing the city's international role in art and culture.
The radiant art is free to the public, who will enjoy the exhibition until June 19 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
"Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn." (Isaiah 60:3)
The picturesque walls and laneways of Jerusalem are currently
illuminated by an amazing variety of light and sound shows.
Peres Gives Italian President
Medal of Distinction
"Tell
the righteous it will be well with them, for they will
enjoy the fruit of their deeds." (Isaiah 3:10)
Last Monday, a day after his visit at the
Vatican to pray for peace along with PA President Mahmoud
Abbas, Israeli President Shimon Peres went to the
Quirinal Palace in Rome to honor President Giorgio
Napolitano with a special presidential medal.
“I am proud to confer upon you the
Presidential Medal of Distinction in honor of your steadfast commitment
to the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
You raised a clear voice in support of Israeli democracy,”
Peres told the Italian leader.
Napolitano is known for his commitment to
Israel, even receiving criticism from within his own
Communist party in Italy for supporting the requests of the
Soviet Prisoners of Zion to immigrate to Israel, and for
what appeared to many as his overly strong condemnation of
terror.
He accepted the medal saying, “My
unflagging relation with the State of Israel and the Jewish
people, my determination to fight anti-Semitism and attacks
on Israel, are an integral part of my anti-fascist
commitment.” (Times of Israel)
Israeli President Shimon Peres confers upon President Giorgio
Napolitano Israel's Presidential Medal of Distinction for his support of Israel.
An explanatory address given before Peres
granted the medal stated that, “President
Napolitano has condemned every manifestation of terrorism,
he has hosted meetings between Israelis and Palestinians in
an effort to seek a solution to the Middle East conflict on
the basis of mutual recognition.”
It continued, “The President represents a
figure of leadership in the European arena in the fight
against Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism.”
(Arutz 7)
The medal is awarded to individuals or
organizations that have made a unique contribution to
improving the world, Israeli society and the State of
Israel’s image around the world.
Past recipients have included Nobel
laureate Elie Wiesel, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and
US presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. (Times of

Israel and EU Sign Scientific
Cooperation Agreement
“I
will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my
salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” (Isaiah
49:6)
Last week, Israel and the
European Union signed the Horizon 2020 agreement that
gives Israel access to the EU’s largest ever research and
development program.
European Commission President Jose Manuel
Barroso met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
and Minister of Science, Technology and Space Yaakov Perry
to sign the agreement.
At the time of the signing, President
Barroso said, “Israel
is a strong player in research and innovation
and for this reason an important partner for the EU to
address societal challenges of common concern, such as
aging, food safety, environment protection or cleaner
energy, and to strengthen the competitiveness of our
industries.
"I am pleased that we are signing the
agreement today since it reflects the mutual importance we
attach to cooperation and partnership in research and
innovation.”
Yaakov Perry, Israeli Minister of Science, Technology and Space
Commenting on what Israel is bringing to
the table, Minister Perry said, “This is proof of
the power of Israeli science and its importance to the
future of the State of Israel.”
He added, “Our
joining the program is significant news for Israeli
science and will bring stronger scientific connections
with Europe and to hundreds of generous research grants
for researchers in Israel.”
The agreement allows Israel to
participate and benefit the same as any other member state.
(HaAretz)
The total fund, valued at 80 billion
euros ($113 billion), is available over a seven-year period
in the form of grants for scientific research and
technological innovation. Of that amount, Israel will
contribute 140 million euros ($191 million) per year with an
expected relative return from the fund of 60%. (Times

Israel, the first and only non-member
state to have access to the fund, devotes 4% of its GDP to
research and development in the fields of science, medicine,
technology and the environment. It has been working with
the EU since 1996, but the present agreement will allow for
a more active involvement. (nocamels)
Last year, the agreement was
placed in jeopardy by the new EU guidelines that denied
any form of financial support to institutions based beyond
what is called the “green line,” the cease fire lines of
1949.
This would have excluded funding of any
institutions in Judea and Samaria or East Jerusalem.
Netanyahu and other government leaders
were concerned that signing any agreement under those terms
would have constituted recognition that these territories
are not a part of the Jewish state.
Then last November, Justice Minister
Tzipi Livni forged an agreement that made it possible for
both sides to maintain their positions but still work
together. In the final
agreement, Israel added a statement that it does not
accept the EU’s definition of whom the territory beyond
the 1967 lines legally belongs to;
nevertheless, funding will still be denied to institutions
operating in these disputed territories. (Times of
