Morning Briefing
For April 25, 2014
Tonight in Iowa
Tonight in Iowa, I’m honored to be the moderator of the Iowa Family Leader’s U.S. Senate Family Forum. The Family Leader has invited all the U.S. Senate candidates in Iowa to participate. Candidates Sam Clovis, Joni Ernst, Mark Jacobs, Matt Whitaker have all chosen to participate in the event.
I don’t plan on asking the candidates their specific positions on policy X, Y, or Z. We all know where the candidates tend to stand on the policy issues. But about their world views we tend to know very little. How do they view the world, what helps them make decisions, what events in their lives shaped them, etc. are things rarely drawn from debates.
That’s what I want to focus on tonight. I’m looking forward to seeing Governor Branstad and Senator Charles Grassley and helping Iowa voters decide who would be best to represent their state in the Senate.

Imagine the leaders of the Democrat Party mocking the party faithful. Try to conjure up the image of Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid running false ads against liberal candidates. Save that thought in your mind because you will never see it in real life. Democrats harness the power of their base to advance the cause of their ideology and party platform. Republican leaders, on the other hand, are at war with their party’s platform.
While speaking to a rotary club in his Ohio district, Speaker John Boehner had this to say about conservatives who are concerned about open borders . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Cover Oregon has died
Cover Oregon is no more. It has ceased to be. It’s expired and gone to meet its Maker. This is a late progra… it’s a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace. If John Kitzhaber hadn’t nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies! It’s rung down the curtain, joined the Choir Invisible…

Bentley Rayburn Defends Religious Freedom For The Military
Michael Weinsten has declared jihad on Christianity in the Armed Forces and has made a damned good living doing it. His fight against religion in general and Christianity in particular let him, in 2012 his hate-fest directed at Christians allowed him to take a salary of over $273,000 from his “Military Religious Freedom Foundation” out of a total of $584,000 raised by that “foundation”. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Mark Pryor dismisses Tom Cotton’s military service as “entitlement”
In a world where the United States military has become a politically correct social experiment; where military leaders are suspended for being insensitive; where openly homosexual troops perform in drag and officers are forced to embrace it or resign; and where a male soldier convicted of selling military secrets can force the military to recognize and accommodate his claim that he is a woman, it should come as no surprise when a liberal senator running for re-election dismisses the military service of his conservative opponent as some sort of entitlement. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D, New Hampshire) is afraid that she’ll lose.
It all started when this rather bizarre post went up on the Jeanne Shaheen website (don’t worry, safe link). You look at that, and you think to yourself: That looks a lot like the framework of an ad – complete with stock photos! – that the Shaheen campaign would very much like a third-party group to grab and turn into an actual campaign commercial, only the campaign can’t actually say that. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
A rising stock market does not lift Obama’s poll numbers
Every now and then, the media will scratch its head and wonder why President Obama’s poll numbers are so awful, when there’s good economic news he should be benefiting from. This almost invariably refers to the stock market, the lone bright spot of the long non-recovery we’ve been slogging through for the past five years. The latest befuddlement over Obama’s inability to benefit from market energy comes from The Hill, which begins by explicitly telling us that we ought to be thanking the current occupant of the White House for high times on Wall Street . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Congress Should Investigate UAW’s Neutrality Agreement & Works Council Scam At VW
On Monday, with their Southern Strategy in peril after their devastating defeat at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, United Auto Workers bosses abruptly abandoned their attempt at creating a media circus by withdrawing their absurd election objections with the National Labor Relations Board.

The Vine
Americans across the country cheered on those participating in the Boston Marathon. It was an emotionally difficult day for runners and spectators alike, remembering last year’s tragic bombing in which three were killed and over 200 injured. However, it’s fitting that the marathon took place the day after Easter – a celebration of life. Today, Boston once again proved their strength and life was honored. For two men, it was their final Boston Marathon but the inspiration and hope they have provided the last 37 years will live on. As Live Action News describes, father, Dick Hoyt, “has pushed, pulled, and carried his son through thousands of races, including marathons, duathlons, and triathlons.” His son, Rick, was diagnosed at birth as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy. However, not only have the father and son duo shown the amazing strength of family, they’ve proven that disability does not define life. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
