IF YOU LIKE YOUR SNAKE OIL, YOU CAN KEEP IT In an interview on the little-watched #2 public affairs show in Las Vegas last month, Democrat congressional candidate Erin Bilbray-Kohn declared that under ObamaCare “you can’t be thrown off your insurance.” Really?  Tell that to almost 25,000 Nevadans who believed President Barack Obama when he infamously assured the nation in 2009 that “if you like your current health care plan, you can keep it.”  Because according to a story by Jennifer Robison published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal last week: “New figures from the Nevada Division of Insurance show that 24,623 Nevadans…have received from their insurer a cancellation letter, or a nonrenewal notice with an alternative plan to replace existing coverage.” And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  The vast majority of Nevadans are insured by their employers, and the employer mandate for ObamaCare has been delayed for a year.  So the vast majority of Nevadans won’t be “thrown off their insurance” policies until January 2015. No wonder 39 Democrats last week voted with Nevada Republican Reps. Joe Heck and Mark Amodei in favor of the Keep Your Health Care Act of 2013, begging the question… What would Mrs. Bilbray-Kohn have done? Absent a firm statement to the contrary – she declined to state her position on the “ObamaCare fix” when asked by a Capitol Hill newspaper last week - I think we all know she would have voted with Nevada’s Democrat Reps. Dina Titus and Steven Horsford to continue allowing Nevadans to be thrown off their insurance policies. As a longtime political operative wedded to President Obama and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Bilbray-Kohn will be a rubber-stamp for whatever the White House and party leaders want, even to the detriment of Nevada’s citizens. ObamaCare is a disaster, and not just the roll-out.  Indeed, as the Galen  Institute notes, “ObamaCare already has been ‘fixed’ at least 28 times, either by administrative actions that may be illegal, by acts of Congress signed by the president, or by the U.S. Supreme Court.” Like snake-oil, ObamaCare was sold to the naïve among America’s voting population as a be-all-to-end-all.  Alas, like snake-oil there are shills among us touting the miraculous benefits of this quackery.  When she finally finds her voice on this latest “ObamaCare fix,” it’ll be interesting to see if Mrs. Bilbray-Kohn plays the part of an ObamaCare grifter, or stands with the 39 Democrats who had the strength and independence to proclaim that the king wears no clothes.
