THE WHEELER LYNCH MOB
OK,
by his own admission Assemblyman Jim
Wheeler went too far in trying to explain just how important the opinions of
his constituents are to him with his reference to slavery in that now-infamous
video from a meeting in Story County two months ago.
And
clearly there’s no love lost between the
rural cowboy and Las Vegas urbanites. The
North/South divide in this state is as big as ever and as real as Dr. Joe Heck’s patriotism.
And
let’s be clear on exactly who the main players are who are out for this
conservative’s scalp…
- Jon Ralston, Nevada’s #2 liberal blogger, who hates movement conservatives with a burning white passion
- Democrats who hate conservatives
- Liberal activists who hate conservatives
- Southern Nevadans who think the north has been leeching off them for decades (see: Dina Titus)
- Keith Lynam (who?)
- The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, which has historically supported tax hikes that Wheeler opposes
- Establishment Republicans and RINOs who can’t stand Wheeler’s conservatism
Look,
the guy made a mistake in making an analogy about his commitment to representing
his constituents. But in the end, all of
the people listed above calling for the man to be tar-and-feathered don’t
matter. The very constituents that
Wheeler represents will have the final word.
And,
by the way, I spoke with Assemblyman Wheeler this morning…and he ain’t quittin’. Unlike his Gumby Republican colleagues who
have thrown him under the bus, Wheeler has a backbone.
Speaking
of whom…
THE THREE WEENIES
Republican
Assemblyman Wes Duncan, who had a
rather spotty conservative voting record his first session this year, joined
the feeding frenzy in calling for Wheeler’s head on a pike. Duncan wrote that Wheeler’s “characterization
of the duty and role of an elected official in relation to his constituents is
a complete misunderstanding of our system of government.”
That’s
choice coming from Duncan.
Duncan,
you may recall, recently decided it was OK for legislators to serve two masters
by taking a job as a government employee while simultaneously serving in the
Legislature. Seems Mr. Wheeler isn’t the
only one with a misunderstanding of our system of government.
People
in glass houses, Mr. Duncan.
Worse,
Duncan relied on an erroneous blog post by the notorious liberal attack dog, Jon Ralston, when he wrote that
Wheeler’s “comments regarding Las Vegas and Southern Nevadans being lawbreakers
were ridiculous.”
As
it turns out, Ralston got the translation of Wheeler’s comments wrong (go
figure). Wheeler didn’t say that the
people of Las Vegas “don’t care about the rules.” He said Las Vegans don’t care about the RURALS.
And
in that, he’s, um, pretty much right.
Most
Las Vegans would have no better luck finding Round Mountain on a map as
Kabul. And that includes Ralston, who
would be as welcome in most parts of rural Nevada as a dose of the clap.
Also
joining Duncan in piling on and issuing press releases condemning Wheeler were
tax-hiking GOP Assembly colleagues Paul
Anderson (another government employee who’s trying to oust Minority Leader Pat Hickey and take the top job) and Lynn “The Bug Man” Stewart, perhaps the worst-voting liberal
Republican in the Legislature and, um, another government employee (retired).
The
funny thing about this is that, to the best of my knowledge, these three government employee
weenies combined didn’t send out so much as ONE press release during the last
legislative session attacking a Democrat or liberal piece of legislation. But when the opportunity came to attack a
conservative, they miraculously found their “Send” buttons!
REALITY CHECK
Repeat
after me…
If
the Nevada Republican Party is ineffective and unsuccessful, it is the fault of
one man: Brian Sandoval.
Period.

RALSTON RETORTS!
OK,
here’s what Jon Ralston - Nevada’s #2
liberal blogger and lieutenant governor candidate Mark Hutchison’s unofficial communications director - scribbled in
his Morning Flash e-newsletter on Thursday…
THREE YEARS LATER AND NO DEBT PAID
“As I tweeted last night and talked about on ‘Ralston Reports,’ lieutenant governor’s candidate Sue Lowden has yet to pay a dime of that debt I first reported in August. She filed a document with the FEC this week that indicates the debt is virtually the same. She owes half a million dollars from three years ago, is running for another office and may put her own money in? Does this strike anyone else as even slightly odd? I know vendors who are still angry about being stiffed and she has blithely said other candidates do it and actually told the Sun’s Andrew Doughman they are paid, which is simply untrue. I asked her Wednesday about it and she refused to comment until she could see the document herself – a document her past and current campaign treasurer, Bob Beers, filed. Why would she need to see it? She has not paid and she knows it. The question is: Why?”
Why? Because – and I know this is going to shock
you – Ralston’s wrong!
I
called Bob Beers this morning to ask about this. And according to Mr. Beers, Sue and Paul Lowden put their own money
into the campaign account in the last quarter and paid certain vendors with
whom they have a repayment agreement, just as they have for at least the last
four reporting periods.
So
there are some debts which have, indeed, been paid in full. There are some debts which continue to be
paid over time as agreed between the campaign and the vendors. And there are other debts which have been
disputed and won’t be paid unless ordered to do so by a court.
So
either (a) Jon did his usual sloppy “journalistic” work and reported on
something without having his facts straight, or (b) he’s an outright liar who
is simply carrying water for Hutchison’s handlers – namely Pete Ernaut and Mike Slanker
- in continuing this jihad against Lowden.
I’m
thinking the answer is (a) AND (b).
ANOTHER RALSTON GRAMMAR
FAIL
As
you may recall, Ralston ridiculed the GOP this week for using “it’s” instead of
“its” in a press release. But take a
look at Ralston’s blurb above again.
As I’ve
pointed out in the past, he again misuses the possessive in “lieutenant
governor’s candidate.” Putting the
apostrophe where Li’l Jon has it makes it appear as though Lowden is Lt. Gov.
Brian Krolicki’s candidate. That’s not
right. There should be no apostrophe-“s”
in the word at all.
How
embarrassing that this college educated know-it-all “journalist” (and dick!)
has to have his grammar corrected by a high school graduate.
