BOSTON —Sending a text to a driver in New Jersey could land you in trouble if the driver crashes their vehicle.  A state appeals court ruled that third-party texters could be responsible in texting-related crashes.
It stems from a case in New Jersey in which a teen texted a friend who was driving. That friend read the text, swerved and struck a husband and wife, who were on a motorcycle.
Both lost a leg in the crash. They sued, and lost, but now an appeals court has ruled that a person who texts someone they know is driving can be held liable if that person crashes.
