RedState Briefing 08/20/2013

Morning Briefing
For August 20, 2013

1.  We Have a Plan. They Don’t.
RedState’s Action Center is active. Call your Senators and Congressman and tell them to defund Obamacare in the continuing resolution. Tell them all to hold the line and don’t blink. They must defund Obamacare. If they fund it, they own it.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, and the Republican Leader in the United States Senate, Mitch McConnell, want you to know they will never, ever, ever shut down the Federal Government. They think it is irresponsible. They think the GOP will never ever win a fight and get all the blame for a government shutdown. So it is not happening.

But by God they want you to believe they’re going to draw a line in the sand on the debt ceiling. Oh, and they think they can delay Obamacare’s implementation. There’s a sucker born every minute and they’re hoping Barack Obama and the American people are suckers.

One cannot broadcast the terms of their surrender and then begin negotiating from a position of strength. Is it any wonder the GOP finds itself tripping over its own feet. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

2.  Debunking the Defund Obamacare Myths
Many of the critics of defunding Obamacare on the right are in favor of delaying Obamacare. Delaying just gives the bureaucrats more time to write regulations and get infrastructure in place that will be harder and harder to get rid of later.

Defunding Obamacare actually shuts it down. The Heritage Foundation has a great video out on debunking the defunding myths. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  Obama’s Work to Welfare Program
With the economy stuck in the doldrums, the unemployment rate mired in the mid 7% range and the U-6 rate, which measures those out of work along with those who have given up or who are working part time in lieu of full time work, lounging in the 14% range one has to wonder why there is no popular outcry to throw the bums out.

The answer would seem to be that many are discovering not working is more lucrative than their options in the workforce. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  NLRB employee, Democrat Activist charged with photographing young boy in Disney restroom
A Lansdale man is sitting in prison, waiting for extradition to Florida to answer a charge of felony video voyeurism of a child under the age of 16, for allegedly photographing an 8-year-old boy in a bathroom stall at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

5.  The ruling class war against voter ID
It’s funny how majority support is supposed to be decisive for some issues, but completely irrelevant for others.  Voter ID laws are enormously popular with the general public, routinely scoring 70 to 80 percent approval.  That stacks up pretty well against the most popular gun-control measures you could name.  But the political class and its media allies will never portray voter ID as an urgent national crusade.  No matter how strong support for it grows, voter ID laws are always treated as sinister schemes, advocated by fringe extremists. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

6.  The Great Debate
Personally, I’d love to moderate a debate. I really would. I have long thought that RedState, as one of the most authentic voices of the grassroots GOP in America, would be able to field great, relevant questions from the base. But all of this overlooks the one key issue about limiting debates. . . . please click here for the rest of the post
