1. The Truth May Hurt, But Is Not Mean
I feel the need to add to this post as it is obvious a lot of people take up this topic with some heavily preconceived notions and biases. I am shocked to learn I think women cannot be breadwinners. That is what the left says, but it is not so. Even now I am getting beaten up for suggesting women should stay home with their kids. While I think it is preferable, I also know it is often impossible. I know from first hand experience.
Prior to having kids, Christy and I both worked. Once we had our first child and I was making a full time go of RedState, Christy had to work if we were to have insurance. Frankly, we could not make ends meet on my salary alone and, even after the cost of day care, had to have the remainder of Christy’s salary to help make ends meet. We still struggled.
At one point I had to contemplate being a single dad, but thank God I did not have to be. When we made the decision that Christy would stay home with the kids, we did so contemplating I would have to get one or more additional jobs in order for her to do it. God truly blessed us in how he arranged it, but we had made the decision to make the leap to her being a stay at home before those blessings even arrived. I work three jobs rather constantly, but am fortunate to do most of it from home.
All of this is to say there are many people who’ve heard what I said and think I’m judging them. I am not. In my own family we’ve been there and struggled. But just because the world has moved on and seems to think the two parent nuclear household with a stay at home mom is no longer necessary or useful does not make it so.
Ladies, if you want to work that’s fine. If your position in life makes it advantageous for you to be the primary bread winner, that’s fine. But your individual circumstances and mine should not hide the fact that there is an ideal and optimal family arrangement whether we in our own lives can meet it.
We should also, as a society, recognize that many single moms are in that position because the men in their lives abandoned their obligations. We should work on all those fronts to put the pieces of the nuclear family back together.
Having said all that, now on to the main point wherein all the controversy lies. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. The eternal system
President Obama took a break from the scandals swirling around his Administration on Wednesday by jetting off to Chicago, where the sort of politics practiced by Obama’s IRS are standard procedure. There he held a few fundraisers, including a posh reception with fat-cat donors where tickets ran from $10,000 to over $32,000 apiece.
“We’ve got a politics that’s stuck right now,” this great Man of the People declared. ”And the reason it’s stuck is because people spend more time thinking about the next election than they do thinking about the next generation.”
The irony of this bitterly divisive, politics-obsessed President making such a pronouncement at an event dedicated to raking in cash for the 2014 midterms, in which he won’t even be a candidate, was doubtless lost on both Obama and his adoring audience. They’d all better hope to God that Obama supporters don’t start thinking about the mountain of debt they’re dropping on the next generation, or his entire Party is finished. Obamanomics is all about selling the future down the river in exchange for enough Big Government swag to buy the next election. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. NC House Speaker Thom Tillis to Announce Run for Senate
Sources in Raleigh are confirming that NC House Speaker Thom Tillis will be announcing a bid for the United States Senate some time tomorrow.
The potential for Tillis to run has been rumored for some time, enough so that a Super PAC, Grow NC Strong, recently filed paperwork in anticipation of his announcement.
The announcement will likely wet the appetites of Democrats in DC ready to pounce on recent scandals that have plagued his office, including multiple staffers that had inappropriate romantic relationships with lobbyists which resulted in resignations and negative media coverage for the Republican. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Was It Worth It? After 10 Years On Strike, Hotel Union Throws In The Towel
After 10 years of picketing and rowdy rallies outside a downtown Chicago hotel, UNITE-HERE has decided to call off its decade-long strike.
On Father’s Day, 2003, UNITE-HERE went out on strike against the Congress Hotel when the hotel’s owner refused to agree to the union’s demand to accept the same (pattern) contract it demanded of all Chicago-area hotels.
During the ten years the union was on strike, the union engaged in a vicious campaign to try to get the hotel’s owner to capitulate. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. Google Chairman Bankrolls Tech Shop Exclusively for Democrats
I’ve written previously about how embedded Google, Inc., is with the Democratic Party and the Obamasphere in particular.
I was told by many that it was the stuff of tin-foil hats to believe that Google was in the tank for Democrats. They’re just working with clients after all! Why, Romney and Republicans could’ve just as easily worked with them! This isn’t partisan!
Well, now, this is just in from Bloomberg/Businessweek: Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, one of Obama’s biggest boosters, is bankrolling a new for-profit endeavor being run by former Obama tech staffers that will be working exclusively for Democrats, as well as some corporate clients, in future. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
