NEVADA - GOP SAYS "NO ON SB221"

Note: This has already passed the Senate so it is critical you let the Assemblymen know you oppose this bill!

Bill Criminalizing Private Firearm Transfers without Dealer-Run Background Check
Assembly Judiciary Committee will meet Saturday, June 1 at 8:00am. There could be a vote.

SB221criminalizes private transfers of firearms without a dealer-run background check. Violations of this law could result in a loss of Second Amendment Rights. (You may want to write your own message.)

From the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Alerts) www.nraila.org  ALERTS:
SB221 was amended and passed in the Senate Finance Committee Tuesday in a party line 4-3 vote. The amendment adopted in committee requires that all private party transfers be conducted through a gun dealer, absent an exemption. The dealer would conduct the transfer as if he were selling normal inventory, except the dealer will make the background check inquiry directly through NICS - as compared to making it through the state Department of Public Safety - and can charge a fee (tax) of $30 for the transaction.
SB 221 carries severe penalties for violations that could result in a loss of Second Amendment rights. An individual who fails to comply with the new background check transfer requirements would be guilty of a gross misdemeanor and prohibited from possessing a firearm for a period of two years. The second offense would be a felony, resulting in loss of Second Amendment rights.
