Morning Briefing
For April 12, 2013
1. Can You Imagine the Coverage If It Were Dogs?
Last night on twitter, Dave Weigel of Slate noted he was just hearing from twitterers about the gruesome trial of Kermit Gosnell. Those who care about the story owe a tremendous debt to Kirsten Powers taking to the pages of USA Today to write about it.
It is fascinating how much of a bubble the media lives in with that bubble so DC-NYC centric. It is again one of the problems for news organizations like CNN as it tries to rebuild. With the exception of Fox News, the American news networks focus on the things people along the coast are interested in and not what people along the American river valleys are talking about.
In churches, local restaurants, and small town hair salons a lot of people across the country are talking about the terrible trial of Kermit Gosnell in Pennsylvania. It’s just not the people who interact with those who produce the news in New York City.
In fairness to CNN, unlike many other mainstream media outlets, it covered the Gosnell arrest back in 2011, but moved on. Only Fox, which is the number one news network largely because it actually cares what people outside the DC-NYC bubble care about, has stayed with the story.
Gosnell is now on trial two years after his arrest. The stories coming from the trial via the few outlets willing to pay attention are horrific and gruesome. But what’s more, similar stories are trickling out from other abortion clinics. The uncommon barbarism of Kermit Gosnell’s clinic turns out to be more common than most might imagine. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Obama Cynically Ups The Ante With Newest Nominations To His Illegitimate NLRB
Earlier this week, Barack Obama made three nominations to his beleaguered and arguably-unconstitutional National Labor Relations Board. Through this week’s action, Obama is once again demonstrating that he is more interested in setting up a political war-of-words than solving the problem he created. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. MO Highway Patrol Contradicts Gov Nixon On CCW Leak
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has some explaining to do. Yesterday during a hearing led by state Senator Kurt Schaefer, Col. Ron Replogle of the Missouri Highway Patrol confessed that Missouri state law was violated (which I shared Wednesday) and the full list of conceal carry permit holders was sent to the federal government . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Leftist Groups Legislate Same Day Voter Registration, Election Integrity Hardest Hit
A bill just introduced in the Colorado legislature would allow voter registration through Election Day, beginning July 1 of this year. The legislation, which was drafted by Common Cause, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), America Votes, and various other left-wing organizations, contains provisions similar to fraud-plagued election policies in the state of Wisconsin. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. Liberals, New York Times Misrepresent Wisconsin Shooting
Gun control advocates have seized upon a Brookfield, Wisconsin shooting last year as evidence validating their drive for more restrictive gun laws. The tragic story of the Azana Spa shooting on a Sunday last October has risen to a leading anecdote in the gun debate thanks to the efforts of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The New York Times in a Thursday story declared that, “Cases like the Wisconsin spa shooting are at the heart of the debate raging in Washington over whether to expand background checks for all gun purchases.”
While that representation fits the desired liberal narrative, it may not fit the facts. Local media outlets in Wisconsin pointed out in the days and weeks after the shooting that local law enforcement agencies repeatedly failed to apprehend the eventual shooter after coming in contact with him numerous times in violence and domestic abuse related incidents. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
