RedState Briefing 03/19/2013

Morning Briefing
For March 19, 2013

1.  In Response to RedStateMitch McConnell Doubles Down on Surrender
Mitch McConnell wants to clear the air based on my earlier RedState post. In the post, quoting Yahoo! News, I noted McConnell said, “When it came to Obamacare, we gave it everything we have, everything we have, and we just lost.”

In response to yesterday morning’s post, Mitch McConnell’s press team sent out an email blast with the transcript of the speech. They reached out to my office insisting I fix a quote from a news story that itself has not changed the quote. Nonetheless, the McConnell team insists the actual quote is, “We gave it everything we had, and we just barely lost the legislative fight.”

Okay, but what else did Mitch McConnell say.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post

2.  The Marketplace Fairness Act is More Unfair Than Status Quo
The advent of the internet has simplified life for millions of consumers in this country.  But for state governments, many of which are hungry for more tax revenue to purvey their rapacious welfare states, e-commerce has complicated their ability to collect all sales taxes owed to the state – at least without directly taxing the consumer, something the statists are too scared to do.

Most states have been collecting sales taxes for over 50 years – long before the internet was invented.  The tax was structured so that the seller would automatically collect the tax from the buyer on behalf of the state.  Many jurisdictions have multiple layers of sales tax – some of them collecting city, county, and state taxes.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  Barack Obama to double down on sequester stupidity and cancel Easter Egg Roll?
I am starting to conclude that Barack Obama is simply not as bright as he thinks that he is . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  Colorado Planned Parenthood Clinics Not Regulated By Standard State Health and Medical Guidelines
Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM), which currently faces a lawsuit in Colorado for malpractice and health standard violations, is not licensed or regulated as a health clinic under Colorado state policy. A Media Trackers investigation has revealed and PPRM has confirmed that while individual PPRM doctors and nurses are certified at the state level, the clinics themselves only meet federal level standards and regulation dating back to the 1980s. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

5.  250 clergymen can be wrong
In the latest effort to make Jindal feel really bad about his tax swap proposal, 250 clergymen sent a letter to his office. . . . please click here for the rest of the post
