UPDATE: Even as a large group of Congressional Republicans at a press conference on Capitol Hill denounced the infamous Obama contraception mandate, and vowed to "stand up" and defend religious freedom as defined by the First Amendment…
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced that they "had agreed" on a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government for six months – including ObamaCare and the HHS mandate!
Obama, said Reid, has agreed to the deal. The CR reportedly will fund the government into early 2013 at a cost of $1.047 trillion and no cuts.
The elites and establishment of both parties are tickled pink – big, fat government grinds on at its bloated, intrusive level and a well-funded ObamaCare digs into our body politic like a tick… draining our nation's conscience, our integrity, our very lifeblood as they make America sicker, and weaker, and more vulnerable.
Full funding for the odious HHS regulation mandating abortion-inducing drugs, artificial contraception and sterilization procedures is included in this dirty deal – as well as overall ObamaCare general funding – unless YOU shut it down! The GOP House "leadership" has apparently agreed to these terms without consultation with the member conference, without tough negotiations, without any fight to defund the mandate.
This is a COMPLETE CAPITULATION, AND CANNOT STAND!
DEMAND THAT CONGRESS REPUDIATE THIS DIRTY DEAL!
If legislation funding the government AFTER Sept. 30 includes language that PROHIBITS the Obama administration from spending money to implement the regulation, the administration CANNOT implement it.
Congress has COMMITTED to FIGHT this BATTLE!
The HHS regulation mandates that nearly all health insurance plans must cover – without any fees or co-pay – sterilizations, contraceptives, and abortion-inducing drugs.
The Catholic Church and other faith organizations have rightly denounced the regulation as an "unjust and illegal mandate" that violates the First Amendment right to free exercise of religion because it forces workers, business owners and institutions to buy and/or provide health care plans that violate the teachings of their faith.
The Republican majority in Congress has PLEDGED to DEFUND this mandate. They MUST uphold their word!
By all reports, the CR "deal" will provide spending for discretionary programs set at the $1.047 trillion level set in last year's debt ceiling agreement (the justly derided "debt deal"), instead of the $1.028 trillion figure prescribed in the House-passed budget. It will also continue funding for the HHS mandate and broader ObamaCare programs.
This early agreement on the FY 2013 budget is said to "provide economic stability" and is being touted as advisable to "avoid a government shutdown" on October 1. Both chambers will vote on the 6-month Continuing Resolution after returning from the August recess in September.
This is arrant nonsense. If the GOP pursues this course, they remove any lingering doubt in the minds of the American electorate that Republicans are liars and hypocrites – undeserving of the responsibilities of governance.
After all the "solidarity" demonstrations dramatically held with the persecuted church and faith organizations over Obama's HHS mandate; after railing against the unconstitutionality of ObamaCare; after all the vows, promises, and oaths to DEFUND, RESCIND, REVOKE, and REPEAL any and every part of the Orwellian-named Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; after having spent a year vowing not to abandon the Ryan budget for a CR or for a debt ceiling agreement – Boehner and McConnell lead even solid conservatives to ruefully conclude that it is hopeless, pointless, futile to FIGHT under their flaccid, feckless "leadership."
It seems the oft-times rather valiant Sen. Jim DeMint has evidently concluded that as much as the nation needs a fight over ObamaCare and spending NOW – before the November elections – it is prudent to defer these fights rather than surely fail in them. Given present GOP "leadership" and the certitude that under the command of Boehner and McConnell such battles will be either shirked or bungled, DeMint has ruefully suggested in the Wall Street Journal that discretionis adjudged the better part of valor.
Conservatives, in fact, are arguing that this shameful retreat is a good thing because by abandoning religious conscience, they are able to "kick the budget can" down the road (again), now clear into 2013. This, allegedly, will prevent a budget bill from being used as a vehicle to pass more harmful legislation, such as a bad tax extension, bad treaties, and other mischief during the Lame Duck session.
Again – this is arrant nonsense. As is typical of Boehner's pre-emptive capitulations, there are no concessions reported from Reid or Obama regarding the Lame Duck session – all their leftist hobby horses will be hard ridden. Boehner is utterly indifferent to the fact that half the House GOP Conference – 127 members – signed a letter strongly urging him as Speaker not to bring any bill before the House floor that contains funding for ObamaCare, because of their obligations to their constituents and obedience to the dictates of conscience. Now, for the second year in a row, many of Congress' most conservative members, under relentless pressure by their "leaders" will no doubt accede to "kick the can."
Hill publications are gleefully reporting that "the agreed-upon stopgap will help both parties avoid a major conflict before voters head to the polls, when a government shutdown would pose a significant electoral risk to incumbents on both sides of the aisle." So collusion by the sham two party system ensures that the incumbent sinecures are secured… and the First Amendment rights of religious conscience, the commitments to voters, and the promises to constituent taxpayers be damned.

"Leader Reid and I have reached an agreement by which the House and Senate will approve a six-month continuing resolution in September to keep the government operating into next year. During the August district work period, committee members and their staff will write legislation that can be passed by the House and Senate in September and sent to President Obama to be signed into law," Boehner said in a statement.
White House spokesman Jay Carney praised the agreement.
"We are encouraged that both sides have agreed to resolve this issue without delay," he said in a statement. "The president has made clear that it is essential that the legislation to fund the government adheres to the funding levels agreed to by both parties last year, and not include ideological or extraneous policy riders."
Some on Capitol Hill seem prepared to fight. House member Trent Franks (R-AZ) has been relentlessly calling for mandate defunding since day one. Senate Appropriations Committee ranking member Thad Cochran (R-MS) criticized the six-month stopgap, saying passing detailed appropriations bills is better.
"Agreeing to put the government on autopilot for six months is no great achievement. It simply means more drift," Conchran said. "There is no excuse for the Senate not to be considering the appropriations bills."
And our allies at Tea Party Patriots blasted the deal: "Mr. Boehner and Mr. Reid, you might not have built our country, but your lack of guts is destroying it," said Jenny Beth Martin – who is absolutely RIGHT!
WE MUST FIGHT BACK! The Congress MUST resist unprecedented aggression being perpetrated by Obama and his Executive branch upon our rights of conscience and religious liberty by DEFUNDING this mandate!
Because as you can see from the shameful, cavalier refusal of the federal courts to even HEAR our legal challenges to ObamaCare on the grounds of rights of conscience and religious liberty – bringing these protective provisions repeatedly to a vote with "must pass" appropriations is critical to restoring and preserving our liberty!

If Obama's unconstitutional HHS ruling against religious liberty is allowed to stand, in coercive enforcement of ObamaCare abortion and abortifacient insurance coverage, hundreds of charities, schools and hospitals run by religious institutions which refuse to violate their consciences will be forced to close.

Barack Obama has made his final ruling, hiding behind the skirts of HHS Secretary and pro-abortion harridan Kathleen Sebelius. His co-called "accommodation" that shifted the billing burden from the institutions themselves onto their insurance providers was a shabby lie, a slippery bookkeeping fiction that fooled no one.
At issue is the coercive ObamaCare mandate that forces all employers to provide abortion and abortifacient (abortion causing) contraception services as part of their insurance coverage – even though complying with the law would directly violate Christian belief and teaching of thousands of years, rend pro-life principle, and specifically assault Catholic and Evangelical institutions by violating church tenets on procreation.
In a scathing letter posted on the Diocese of Pittsburg website, Bishop David A. Zublic pulls no punches, writing:
Kathleen Sebelius and through her, the Obama administration, have said "To Hell with You" to the Catholic faithful of the United States.
- To Hell with your religious beliefs,
- To Hell with your religious liberty,
- To Hell with your freedom of conscience.
We'll give you a year, they are saying, and then you have to knuckle under.
Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York and President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops explained in a separate letter that the HHS ruling is a direct violation of the First Amendment and a clear attack on religious freedom:
"In effect, the President is saying that we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences," said Archbishop Dolan. "This latest erosion of our first freedom should make all Americans pause. When the government tampers with a freedom so fundamental to the life of our nation, one shudders to think what lies ahead."
And in revisiting the mandate when faced with all the public outcry, Obama moved its effective date up – and it just went into effect for many institutions August 1st! Wheaton College, one of the nation's leading evangelical colleges, announced it was uniting with Catholic institutions to challenge in court Obama's unconstitutional demand that employers provide insurance coverage for death-dealing eugenics!
My friends, we cannot wait for the courts to decide these issues. The courts are corrupted. It is already abundantly clear in their disgraceful majority opinion on the odious ObamaCare "law" that the Supreme Court will not force the Pro-Abortion elites to retreat ONE STEP in their ghoulish death march.
Our only hope now, to escape being forced to choose between God's Law and Obama's Law is to storm the halls of Congress and DEMAND that our First Amendment right of free exercise of religion be protected in EVERY APPROPRIATIONS BILL "conceivable."

We must make noise like never before. We must literally flood both the home districts and the Washington offices of EVERY ONE of our elected representatives with our demands to uphold religious liberty, until the sea of faxes on Capitol Hill resembles the Red Sea crashing upon the Pharaoh and Egyptians, after parting for the Israelites. And may the storm of that sea be calmed ONLY when religious liberty is RESTORED in America!
When the Founders wrote the First Amendment, they believed they could not have been more simple or more clear in their meaning: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Congress MUST ENACT a "Respect for Rights of Conscience" bill that protects religious affiliated groups from a tyrannical, overreaching Executive administration bent on destroying religious liberty and faith-based institutions. Such a bill CAN BE PASSED even through the Democrat-controlled Senate, as an amendment to Congress' massive budget Authorization bills – pork-laden legislation that Harry Reid cannot keep off the floor or afford to kill.
Should the wicked ObamaCare legislation "lawfully" take effect before such a protective bill passes, it will be nearly impossible to retroactively protect religious liberty from the Obama culture of death – which cares NOTHING for our First Amendment guarantees!
It is imperative that we compel Congress to uphold the Constitution, defend our unalienable rights, and ENACT the Respect for Rights of Conscience bill in the form of an amendment and bring it to a full Congressional vote immediately.
Congress simply MUST protect freedom of religion, freedom of conscience and the Constitution from the tyrannical death culture of the Obama administration. Fax Congress today and demand they protect our rights of religious liberty!
