DEMOCRATS VOTE 'NO' TO A BALANCED BUDGET!

Dear Fellow Conservative:

I'm writing to let you know about an important vote that took place in the Senate last night.

Newly-elected Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) offered an amendment expressing support for a Constitutional Amendment that would force Congress to balance the budget.

Senator Lee forced a vote and put every senator on record.

The vote was 58 in favor and 40 opposed.

How could anyone vote against balancing the budget? The 40 senators who chose deficits and debt over economic security must be defeated.

The time for excuses is over. Our nation is at a tipping point and we must adopt a zero tolerance policy on this critical issue.

We need just 9 more votes to reach the 67 needed to pass a Constitutional Amendment, and we can win those votes in the next election if we work hard.

Of the 40 senators who voted "nay" yesterday, 13 are up for re-election next year. Three have already announced they won't seek re-election -- Akaka (HI), Bingaman (NM) and Webb (VA) -- and 10 more need to feel the heat.

Here are the 10 Deficit Democrats who are running for re-election in 2012:
  1. Cantwell (D-WA)
  2. Casey (D-PA)
  3. Feinstein (D-CA)
  4. Gillibrand (D-NY)
  5. Klobuchar (D-MN)
  6. Menendez (D-NJ)
  7. Sanders (D-VT)
  8. Stabenow (D-MI)
  9. Tester (D-MT)
  10. Whitehouse (D-RI)
There are four things you can do right now to help us win this important fight for our nation's future.
  1. Call the 10 Deficit Democrats and ask them why they voted to bankrupt our country. Let them know that if they don't correct their position immediately, thousands of freedom-loving Americans will work day and night to defeat them next year.

  2. Sign our "Stop the Debt" pledge and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

  3. Call your Republican senators and urge them to cosponsor the Balanced Budget Amendment authored by Senator Mike Lee. Lee's Amendment will not only force Congress to balance the budget, it will also prevent spending from exceeding 18 percent of GDP. Only 19 of the 47 Republicans have cosponsored his Amendment, and there is no excuse for any Republican to not add their name to this critical reform.

  4. Contribute to the Senate Conservatives Fund so we can replace the 10 Deficit Democrats with true conservative leaders in the next election. We need to build up our resources so we have the funds to defeat them.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Together, we will strengthen the United States Senate and take America back.

Respectfully,
Jim DeMint

P.S. The vote last night was Senator Mike Lee's first legislative action on the floor of the Senate. His leadership on this critical issue was made possible by all of the SCF members who fought so hard to get him elected. You can be sure that his predecessor would not have fought for this vote. Please know that your efforts last year to help Mike Lee have made a real difference
