The large majority of Americans continue to view Israel favorably, while far fewer view the Palestinian Authority or Iran favorably. Americans also still sympathize more with the Israelis than with the Palestinians.

Americans' confidence in the economy faltered last week, in tandem with the decline in the Dow Jones industrial average, reversing some slight gains seen earlier in the month. Confidence is now nearly as negative as it was throughout August after a steep decline in July.
