February is National Heart Health Month. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute says meditation, deep breathing, and exercising are a few ways to improve heart health and decrease stress. Another way is by reading positive news stories from our district. Here are a few good news stories to benefit your heart health --

David Peavy’s Wewahitchka girls recently lifted their way to a second-place finish at the FHSAA 1A Region 1 girls weightlifting contests in Live Oak. Blountstown won silver in the Traditional event with 21 points, while the Lady Gators earned fifth place with 17. “It was still a historical day for Wewahitchka girl’s weightlifting,” Peavy added. The Florida Retired Educators Association (FREA) continues its commitment to education through two premier projects, supplying books to young students and scholarships to students who want a higher education. For over three decades, the Jefferson County Unit of FREA has awarded many scholarships to local youth. This year, the unit members collected books for Jefferson County K-12 (JCS) third graders. Read more here

Over 1,200 Grammy nominations for the 2023 Music Educator Award were narrowed down to 10 teacher finalists, and two of them happened to be former Florida State University Marching Chiefs band members. FSU alumni Ernesta Chicklowski and Jack Eaddy were in the final round as the nation waited to find out if one would be the Grammy Award winner for the best music teacher in the country. Read more here.
