On September 23, two dozen heavily-armed FBI agents…in tactical gear…guns drawn…raided the home of pro-life author, speaker, and sidewalk counselor Mark Houck…and, in front of his wife and seven children, handcuffed him and hauled him off to jail. Over what? Over a case so flimsy the District Court of Philadelphia already had thrown it out. Over an incident in which Mark was defending his 12-year-old son when an abortion clinic “escort” verbally abused and repeatedly violated his personal space. And despite the fact that Mark offered to appear voluntarily (an important detail which I’ll come back to in a minute). Make no mistake, this is the political weaponization of the FBI. Make no mistake, this is retaliation for the overturning of Roe v. Wade (sidewalk counselors, crisis pregnancy centers, and even churches are now targets of the radical pro-abortion movement). And make no mistake, this is an assault on all pro-life Americans. Mark is being charged under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act – a law that dates back to Bill Clinton’s pro-abortion presidency. If convicted, he faces 11 years in prison and up to $350,000 in fines. Immediately upon hearing of the early morning raid and arrest, the Thomas More Society swung into action.   Peter Breen (our vice president and general counsel) flew to Philadelphia for Mark’s arraignment. Needless to say, Mark pled “NOT GUILTY!” to these sham charges. But the reality is this will be a long and expensive fight. That’s why I’m asking for your best gift of $35 or more to the HOUCK FAMILY LEGAL DEFENSE FUND. Mark is beloved by his family, friends, neighbors, and in the Philadelphia pro-life community. And I know your support means the world to Mark and his wife (Ryan-Marie). Now, imagine the terror and shock in the innocent faces of his young children as 25 armed federal agents descended on their home, threatened to break down the door, and then swarmed in with guns drawn and barrels pointed throughout the home. That’s why I told you I would come back to the important detail that Mark offered to appear voluntarily to the FBI. His offer was rejected. Why? Precisely because Joe Biden and his radically pro-abortion administration are intent on inflicting as much suffering on Mark and his family (and intimidating pro-lifers in Philadelphia and across the nation) as they possibly can. “We can get to you. We can get to your family.” That’s their message. That’s the “street justice” they’re looking to inflict. And it’s that threat that we have to fight with our defense of Mark. It won’t be easy.
