An eighth-grader from Bay County competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.14-year-old Sydney Graham worked her way up from the University Academy Spelling Bee all the way to the national stage. 234 spellers qualified for the bee, and Sydney was one of 88 contestants advancing to the quarterfinals. Lemonade Day, a program designed to teach youth entrepreneurship through operating lemonade stands, recently partnered with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare to hold a best-tasting lemonade contest. The contest took place at Happy Motoring in Tallahassee. Participants submitted lemonade samples to judges and were able to sell their products to attendees. Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop volunteers Tony Tatarka and Georgi Gunnell gave a $1,000 donation to Williston Animal Group (WAG) President Carol Tchebanoff. The money will be help pay veterinarian bills incurred by the 501(c)3 organization as they prepare the dogs rescued from area kill shelters for permanent adoption. So far this year, they have found forever homes for 35 dogs who would otherwise have been put down. Read more here. |
