NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICTDear Friend, The Biden Administration is putting the needs of illegal immigrants over your needs. When I saw the photos of fully stocked shelves of baby formula in a border detention center, I thought “Surely this cannot be real...” But it is. Families throughout the country are struggling to feed their children, and we’ve seen nothing from the White House or the Food & Drug Administration. This is a matter of life or death and once again, this Administration fails to mitigate this shortage.
Another astounding choice the Biden Administration made this past week was to cancel one of the most high-profile oil and gas lease sales… while you are paying record-high prices at the pump. Our current energy woes stem from President Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline, and now he’s doing it again. President Biden refuses to see that his failed anti-energy agenda is hurting all of us.
President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, and Democrats are blinded to what’s happening outside of Washington D.C., but I see it when I’m home. I hear your grievances and concerns. I will continue to fight back against the Democrats’ far-Left agenda. Please read about my week below:

A Recap of My Week House Energy & Commerce Committee
The House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Health considered six bills this past week. One of the bills, the Food and Drug Amendments of 2022, will set guidelines for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries’ interactions with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. The other five bills included provisions to authorize existing programs that support mental health in our communities, as well as to implement the new 9-8-8 suicide hotline and other resources.
While I have some concerns with the duplicative policies the Democrats are pushing, there was bipartisan agreement amongst the subcommittee. I look forward to the full committee debating these bills. You can watch the hearing here.
Bills I’m Cosponsoring
H.R. 7705 – This bill would amend the United States Code to increase protective resources available to the Supreme Court of the United States and their families. Following the SCOTUS opinion leak, many activists are protesting outside the homes of our Supreme Court Justices. This is a major security concern. The Senate companion bill was passed unanimously earlier this week. I urge my colleagues in the House to vote in favor of these protections.
Letters I’ve Signed Onto - In honor of National Police Week, I signed a letter that urges Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring the Thin Blue Line Act (H.R. 72) to the House floor for a vote as soon as possible. The Thin Blue Line Act would make the murder or attempted murder of a police officer or other first responder an “aggravating” factor in death penalty determinations.
- After many of you brought this issue to light, my Republican colleagues and I promptly sent a letter to President Biden and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner requesting more information about how the FDA will mitigate the baby formula shortage. Click here to read this letter.
- I also joined my Energy & Commerce colleagues in a letter to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Walensky expressing significant concern over a recent report that the CDC purchased location data on Americans to determine if COVID-19 lockdown orders were followed. The letter asks several questions regarding the legal authority to obtain this data and the privacy implications.

Tips for Hurricane Season – Financial Preparedness
Americans at all income levels have experienced the challenges of rebuilding their lives after a disaster or other emergency. In these stressful times, having access to personal financial, insurance, medical and other records is crucial for starting the recovery process quickly and efficiently. - Gather financial and critical personal, household, and medical information.
- Consider saving money in an emergency savings account that could be used in any crisis. Keep a small amount of cash at home in a safe place. It is important to have small bills on hand because ATMs and credit cards may not work during a disaster when you need to purchase necessary supplies, fuel, or food.
- Obtain property (homeowners or renters), health, and life insurance if you do not have them. Not all insurance policies are the same. Review your policy to make sure the amount and types of coverage you have meets the requirements for all possible hazards. Homeowners insurance does not typically cover flooding, so you may need to purchase flood insurance from the National Flood Insurance Program.
