Dear Friend, As we approach the last few days of Mental Health Awareness Month, I encourage you to prioritize your mental health and motivate loved ones to do the same. One great way to improve your mental health is reading and sharing positive news. Here are a few good news stories to help you get started -- | An Army veteran, a husband, a dad… Ralph Macomber of Port St. Joe has reached a lot of milestones in his life— but this may be the biggest one yet. Friends, family, and community members gathered to celebrate Macomber’s 100th birthday and legacy. Mr. Macomber survived the Great Depression, was acquainted with baseball player Babe Ruth, and also served in the Army Air Corps. Happy 100th birthday, Mr. Macomber! Read more here. | College graduation is a milestone for anyone, but for Columbia High Class of 1977 alumna Erma Harris-Morris, earning her bachelor’s degree this May was especially significant. Ms. Harris-Morris, who now lives in Monticello, has spent 36 years working as a private caregiver and a certified nursing assistant. After she guided six children through school and saw three of them graduate from college (so far), she saw the college gates opening for her again. Read more here. | Last month, during the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Employee of the Quarter Ceremony, Sheriff Jared Miller had the honor of presenting WCSO Sgt. David Pienta with a certificate for Reserve Deputy of the Year Award from the National Sheriff’s Association. The Reserve Deputy of the Year award, as stated by the National Sheriff’s Association, is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions as a reserve/auxiliary/volunteer officer for their agency.
