Dear Friend, Before we jump into the good news stories of the week, I want to wish Simon Britt of Campbellton a happy belated 100th birthday! Mr. Britt is a lifelong farmer and fisherman who served in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He’s also contributed a great deal to Jackson County. Kayson Hawkins of Vernon, Florida won First Place in the Annual Essay Contest hosted by the Florida League of Cities and the Florida League of Mayors. The topic of the essay contest was “If I were Mayor for the day…” Kayson focused his essay on infrastructure improvements and economic growth. I think Kayson would make an outstanding mayor, and I hope he considers public service in the future. Congratulations, Kayson! Read his essay here. |
Hooked on Heroes, a local non-profit group that provides fishing expeditions to military veterans, gave a gathering of vets just that recently with a trip to the Sea Hag Marina in Steinhatchee. From there, the gathering of 246 veterans boarded 105 boats to sail the waters of the Steinhatchee River, reeling in fish and finishing off the excursion with a chicken-and-rice dinner. The organization is meant to lift up veterans by giving them a relaxing day around their peers. Read more here. |
Sibling duo Shirah Nenarde and FSU Alum Michael Benarde made their way back on the tv show Shark Tank to give the nation an update on their business Nightcap. The brand has made millions in sales and has more importantly helped so many people. A little more than a year ago, Shirah and Michael appeared on Shark Tank with no business experience and walked away with a deal with Lori Greiner that changed their lives. Read more here. |
