We have students achieving their goals and chasing their dreams and visitors with exceptional strength inspiring us all to turn negatives into positives. Here are a few good new stories from our district to help kickstart your weekend - | Branford senior Nathalia Veal had just descended from the heights of the pole vault when a missed call sent her airborne once more. And she doesn’t plan on coming back down any time soon. During a track meet at Santa Fe High School on March 16, Veal received a message from me, asking her to call me back as I had good news. That news was an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy and the first step in what Nathalia hopes is a chance at the stars. Congratulations, Nathalia! Read more here. | A student at FSU’s College of Medicine received a standing ovation when he matched with his top-choice residency at FSU’s matching ceremony. Cody Canavan was diagnosed with leukemia five years ago and took several years off of school to undergo treatment. After a successful transplant in 2017, and years of recovery, Cody returned to school in 2020 and was recently matched with a residency at Carolinas Medical Center. Read more here. | Grief can make people do crazy things, and the Rosenbergers are no strangers to grief after losing their son, Drew. “Our son committed suicide in October of 2020, and it caught us totally by surprise, he had been diagnosed with bipolar illness,” Daryl Rosenberger said. So Rosenberger decided to use his pain to inspire others by jumping rope from San Diego, California to Jacksonville, making a stop in Ponce de Leon on Tuesday.
