NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICTDear Friend, This past weekend, I had the privilege of greeting some of our veterans as they returned to Tallahassee from the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. This is an annual event where veterans fly to D.C. to tour the memorials built in appreciation of their service. This year’s group paid their respects to the fallen at Arlington National Cemetery and the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War memorials.
Words cannot adequately express how special this opportunity is. I look forward to it every year. We have many veterans in Florida’s Second Congressional District who have accomplished amazing things and have incredible stories to share. This brave group reminds me how fortunate we are to have so many who would risk their lives to protect us. And it is an honor serving them in Congress.
Thank you to all our veterans for your service!

This Week in the District What’s Happening on Capitol Hill Updates from Federal Agencies This Week in the District Honoring Kathryn McInnis
Earlier this month, Florida Gateway College dedicated a building in Mrs. Kathryn McInnis’ honor so that her impact will be remembered for years to come. Mrs. McInnis is a pillar in her community and a role model for many. She is an active member with the Dixie County Education Foundation and has also served on the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council. Additionally, she has served on the Florida Gateway College Board of Trustees for more than two decades.
This past week, I stopped by to present Mrs. McInnis with a copy of the Congressional Record that recognizes her for her outstanding achievements. Thank you, Mrs. McInnis, for giving so much to Dixie County and Florida’s Second Congressional District! We appreciate you.
The Brian Rust Show
ICYMI - I joined The Brian Rust Show in the studio on Wednesday. You can listen to the episode here. My interview begins at the 85 min mark. We discussed Ukraine, the Iran Nuclear Deal, our border, and the Second Amendment.
Thanks, Brian, for having me on! Can't wait to do this again!
Connecting with the Backbone of Florida-02
Our business owners, farmers, and forestry department play a critical role in Florida’s Second Congressional District. On Thursday, I had the pleasure of meeting with many of them. I began my day by speaking to the Network of Entrepreneurs and Business Advocates (NEBA) in Tallahassee. This is a diverse group of businesses and professionals so it was important for me to hear about how our current economy is impacting them and how I can help.
Later that day, I traveled over to Cross City to speak to the Florida Farm Bureau Forestry Committee. After the wildfires we faced last month, it was crucial for us to discuss how to prevent more wildfires from arising. I also discussed with them how regulations and supply chain shortages are impacting them. That evening, I met with the Lafayette County Farm Bureau and several other Farm Bureau leaders from surrounding counties in Mayo. We discussed the supply chain shortages, especially the fertilizer shortages. I expressed the need to hear from them regularly so we can appropriately address the issue and get things back on track.
The Central Panhandle Association of Realtors
On Friday, I spoke to the Central Panhandle Association of Realtors about the changes in real estate since 2020. They’re currently adapting to the recent shift in commercial real estate, as well as the home buying process.
Now that we have expanded our virtual capability, buyers are reevaluating their needs and doing most of the buying process online. This group is doing an outstanding job of evolving to fit the needs of Florida’s Panhandle.
What’s Happening on Capitol Hill Letters I Cosigned I recently signed a letter to President Biden expressing opposition to the President’s Fiscal Year 2023 Budget Proposal on the basis of several anti-life and anti-family provisions. This includes the expansion of abortion on demand, increased funding for the Title X Family Planning Program, and a massive 72% increase in funding to the controversial United Nations Population Fund. We must be a voice for babies who are unable to speak for themselves and defend their right to life.
I also recently joined a bipartisan letter to Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC) Chairman Richard Glick recognizing the Commission’s recent withdrawal of their interim policy statements for further feedback by stakeholders and applauding their decisions to clarify that new rules will not apply to currently pending projects. Natural gas is key to ensuring that the American public has access to reliable and affordable energy. Ensuring the availability of that energy requires a FERC natural gas certificate review process that is clear, consistent, and timely.
Updates From Federal Agencies Update from the IRS The Internal Revenue Service encourages taxpayers who missed Monday's April 18 tax-filing deadline to file as soon as possible. While taxpayers due a refund receive no penalty for filing late, those who owe and missed the deadline without requesting an extension should file quickly to limit penalties and interest.
Families who don't owe taxes to the IRS can still file their 2021 tax return and claim the Child Tax Credit for the 2021 tax year at any point until April 15, 2025, without any penalty.
Some taxpayers automatically qualify for extra time to file and pay taxes due without penalties and interest, including: For more information, click here.
Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. If you haven’t already, LIKE my Facebook page. You can also follow me on Twitter @DrNealDunnFL2. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in Congress! Sincerely,

A veteran’s primary care physician submitted a referral for their acupuncture treatment to be continued; however, after nearly two months, the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Community Care (OCC) still had not processed the referral. After the veteran contacted my office, we were able to work with OCC to have the referral processed promptly so the veteran could resume their treatment.
