Dear Friend, This week, our district received some outstanding news about the U.S. Coast Guard’s decision to include a fourth offshore patrol cutter (OPC) in their contract with the Panama City-based Eastern Shipbuilding Group. This OPC program generates hundreds of skilled jobs and provides economic benefits for thousands of families in Florida’s Second Congressional District. This was a great way to start the week! Keziah Crespo, a 2020 graduate of Dunnellon High School, is the 2022 Florida Miss Agriculture USA. Miss Agriculture USA is a nonprofit which aims to promote agriculture and develop the skills and leadership of young women interested in agriculture. Crespo was the 2022 Marion County FL Miss Agriculture USA and was selected among 19 county queen finalists to represent Florida in the national contest. Congratulations, Keziah! Read more here. |
Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Run-DMC still knows how to rock a stage. The two-time Grammy Hall of Famer recently brought his message of love and learning to Florida State University School so that children could see they can overcome obstacles and tap into what makes them great. His new children’s book titled “Darryl’s Dream” features a third-grade version of himself overcoming bullies and a fractured self-esteem. Read more here. |
The Chipola College Brain Bowl team brought home a win in the state championship this week. The Chipola team is made up eight of students some dually enrolled in both college and high school, ranging from 17-22 years old. This year, the team defeated their long-time rival Valencia College, as well as winning all nine round-robin games to secure the championship last month. This is Brain Bowl coach Stan Young’s 17th year with the team. Read more here. |
