On Monday, I joined Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and U.S. Representatives Gregory Meeks (D-NY) and Steve Chabot (R-OH) in sending a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling for the United States to take action on Burma’s deteriorating humanitarian and human rights situation. On Tuesday, I released a statement on the recently announced Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act , which the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs considered on Wednesday. In its current form, the bill fails to remove critical hurdles that prevent veterans from receiving life-saving care. Read more here .

On Wednesday, I joined Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and our Senate colleagues in applauding the U.S. Senate’s passage of their resolution designating January 23 through January 29, 2022 as National School Choice Week. Read more here

On Wednesday, I joined Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and bipartisan colleagues in applauding the Senate’s unanimous passage of our resolution reaffirming U.S. support for the Belarusian pro-democracy movement. Read more here

On Wednesday, I joined Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), along with U.S. Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Jim McGovern (D-MA), in sending a letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate and House Committees on Appropriations in support of increased funding for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency to aggressively enforce my Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Read more here

On Thursday, as Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I issued a statement after U.S. forces killed ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi. Read more here .

On Thursday, I joined Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Representative Daniel Webster (R-FL)  in leading 40 of our colleagues in a bicameral letter to the Comptroller General of the Government Accountability Office after the District of Columbia’s Pretrial Services Agency published a notice of its intent to create a database known as the “Employee Religious Exception Request Information System.” Read more here .

On Thursday, I joined Senator John Thune (R-SD) and Republican colleagues in urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to suspend the pending rule to redefine the scope of waters protected under the Clean Water Act (CWA), specifically “waters of the United States” (WOTUS), until the U.S. Supreme Court completes its consideration of Sackett v. EPA , a case that is expected to have major implications for CWA scope and enforcement. Read more here

Legislation Introduced

  • On Tuesday, Senator Steve Daines and I, along with our colleagues, reintroduced the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act , which would allow pregnant moms to claim the Child Tax Credit for their unborn children. Read more here .

  • On Wednesday, Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Mike Braun (R-IN), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and I introduced the No PLA Loopholes Act , a bill to close a loophole in existing law in order to limit joint military operations and exercises between the United States and the armed wing of the Chinese Communist Party, the People’s Liberation Army.   • On Thursday, Representative Jim Banks (R-IN) and I introduced the Teamwork for Employees and Managers (TEAM) Act of 2022 , which would provide workers seeking to organize with an alternative to unionization that allows both workers and managers to work together, without fearing heavy-handed legal action or bureaucratic meddling from the National Labor Relations Board.   • On Thursday, I introduced legislation to modernize the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by clarifying that the definition of corrupt intent includes actions that excuse the genocide in Xinjiang, advance the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda efforts, or “invest” in core CCP activities, among other actions.   • On Thursday, Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) and I introduced the Agility in Manufacturing Preparedness Act to require the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority to contract with the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals for the purpose of evaluating the current capacity and vulnerabilities of biopharmaceutical manufacturing in the United States.   • On Thursday, Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and I introduced the Countering CCP Drones Act to add Chinese Communist Party affiliated drone company Da-Jiang Innovations to the Federal Communications Commission’s Covered List. Read more here .

  • On Thursday, Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and I introduced the Taiwan Representative Office Act , a bipartisan and bicameral bill that would direct the U.S. Secretary of State to enter into negotiations to rename the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in Washington, D.C. the “Taiwan Representative Office,” which better reflects its status as Taiwan’s de facto diplomatic mission to the United States.
