Dear Friend, We have a lot of great things going on in Florida-02 and a lot of constituents doing outstanding things like helping their neighbors, opening new businesses, and even competing in the Olympics. Check out this week’s good news stories below -- | Lexi Mccardle of Lake City recently went above and beyond to help her neighbor, Corey Burk. The Florida Highway Patrol trooper recently underwent surgery to help treat his cancer. When Lexi heard of his condition, she formed a simple lemonade stand, complete with baked goods, lemon drops, lollipops, and pizza, to help raise money for Burk’s surgeries. Lexi even baked some oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies herself for the cause. Read more here. | History was made last weekend in Calhoun County as a new Blountstown brewery celebrated its grand opening. Blountstown Beer Company is the first brewery in Calhoun County. The brewery celebrated its grand opening by serving flights of freshly brewed craft beer and beer food - some people even traveled all the way from Tallahassee. Owner Josh Parker hopes this will inspire more breweries to open in Florida. Read more here. | Last week, temperatures touched 80 degrees in Ocala, FL. It's not the kind of place you'd expect to produce Winter Olympians. However, three of the top U.S. speedskaters at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Brittany Bowe, Erin Jackson, and Joey Mantia – all hail from Ocala, which does not even have a year-round ice rink. And all three started out as inline skaters on a team that is now called Ocala Speed, coached by the same woman, Renee Hildebrand.
