NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

It’s been one year since President Biden took office and what do the Democrats have to show for it?

  • The highest inflation rate in 40 years
  • Decreasing labor force participation
  • Rising gas and energy prices
  • At least 16 U.S. cities with record-high homicide rates
  • Adversaries in Beijing, Tehran, and Moscow growing stronger every day
  • Over 1.7 MILLION illegal immigrants apprehended at our southern border

Moreover, the Biden Administration has failed to keep its promise to “shut down” COVID-19. The only thing this administration has successfully managed to shut down is the trust of Americans nationwide.

President Biden inherited vaccines developed in record time by President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed, a powerful distribution plan, and an ever-growing testing capacity. He can blame Republicans all he wants, but Biden and Biden alone is to blame for the COVID-19 testing and treatment shortages.

This past week, I joined the GOP Doctors Caucus and House Republican leadership in pointing out the many shortfalls of the Biden Administration’s handling of COVID-19. My colleagues correctly pointed out the administration’s failure to distribute COVID-19 tests and treatments, as well as their inaction in holding Communist China accountable for this pandemic. We will keep pushing the White House and House Democrats to “follow the science” and do what’s best for the American people rather than what’s best for their Far-Left agenda.

What’s Happening on Capitol Hill
Keep Kids in School Act

This past week, I joined my colleague Representative Kat Cammack on a bill that would prohibit COVID-19 federal relief funds from going to local education agencies that fail to offer in-person instruction on a full-time basis. The Keep Kids in Schools Act would not apply to a school that does not offer full-time in-person instruction because of quarantine or isolation guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Many parents and teachers are concerned about the well-being of our students, and rightfully so. Students are falling behind in their studies and struggling mentally with the chaos. It is in their best interest to have consistency. This bill will help with that.

Lack of supply of COVID-19 therapeutics

I recently signed on to a letter to the Biden Administration regarding my concern over the lack of therapeutics available, including monoclonal antibody treatments. The administration has focused on vaccine mandates and mask guidance but has failed to provide our communities with effective and life-saving treatments to combat COVID-19. Our doctors and hospitals must have access to all approved therapeutics. I am demanding answers from this administration as to why we have approved therapeutics but no supply available for our communities.

Let’s Save Lives! Donate Blood Today

Our district knows well that a disaster can strike at any moment. That’s why it’s critical for us to maintain an ample supply of blood donations. Right now, donations are the lowest they’ve been in over a decade. If you’re able to give blood, I encourage you to make blood donation a habit. You never know when you or a loved one might be in need.

Get Vaccinated

I encourage you to schedule an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine. The State of Florida has partnered with Sharecare to provide an easy-to-use platform that will save your spot for your shot. Schedule your appointment here. Florida has many sites providing the COVID-19 vaccine. Use the vaccine finder to find a site near you. Supplies are limited and appointments may be required.

The Pfizer vaccine is authorized for persons aged 12 and up. The Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccines are authorized for persons aged 18 and up.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration recently announced the authorization of single booster doses for the Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen vaccines. You can find more information about the boosters here.

Please consult your doctor before getting a COVID-19 vaccine or booster.

Monoclonal antibody treatments

Early monoclonal antibody treatment saves lives. Antibodies help the immune system recognize and respond effectively to the virus. According to the treatment guidelines, monoclonal antibody therapy should be administered as soon as possible after diagnosis. Referrals are not required at any of the State of Florida monoclonal antibody treatment sites and treatment is available at no cost to patients.

If you or someone you know has tested positive for COVID-19, visit this link to find locations to receive monoclonal antibody treatment. For more information about the treatments, click here

Supplies are limited. If you cannot find a location offering this treatment, please contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

Constituent Casework Corner

A veteran contacted my office after not receiving three months’ worth of travel reimbursement for healthcare services from the Department of Veterans Affairs. After we contacted the VA, it was determined a system error was preventing the reimbursements from being released to the veteran. The error was quickly fixed, and the veteran promptly received the funds.
