THE LAST HOUR
“Little children, it is the last time, and you have heard that the antichrist is coming,
Even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.”
1 John 2.18
First Letter: “SATAN RAGES”
Written to: The Kingdom of God Saints and Friends who are not yet Partakers in God’s Kingdom:
residing in North Carolina, Colorado, Utah, California, Hawaii, Hong Kong, and Australia.
The great battle in the highest heavens has been fought and won. Our glorious Archangel Michael has overthrown the Arch-Fiend and cast him down to the earth. In the highest heavens, the principle of evil has received total defeat through the life and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. The great quarrel between God and sinful man has come to an end. Atonement has been made for human sin. Everlasting righteousness has been bought and peace of God now reigns in heaven.
But the conflict rages here on earth! In this earthly region the evil prince of this world is warring madly against God and His Truth. “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time” (Revelation 12. 1-17).
The devil knows that his time is short; and he is no careless waster of his time. He values his opportunity to distress, deceive, oppose, hinder, tempt, torment, and persecute the people of God, and dishonor the name of Jesus Christ. Since he has but a short time, he treats it as such. He knows he will be routed on earth since he has already fallen from heaven to earth and he concludes that his reign is ended and his opportunity is short.
Oh, that men were half as awake and would remember their end. Fallen from Heaven as the devil has become, he has wit to make the most of his opportunity on earth. We know our mortality and yet live as if we do not know. There is a great necessity for many of us to pray this Scripture: “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom” (Psalm 90.12). In this the Archenemy, unlike us, so well knows that his time is short that he is activated in this knowledge to operate in the deepest emotion of which he is capable --- anger! For he does not know how to love. Wrath is his very soul, as hatred is his very life. Therefore, the fact that his time is short stirs the passion of wrath to a horrible pitch within him. His evil nature is all on fire, and his evil excitement is terrible!
Satan and his demons feel great hatred. Why is it that we do not feel great love? Should devils be more eager to destroy than we are to save? Should they be all on fire, while we are half lit? There is nothing Satan can do for his evil cause that he does not do. We may be half-hearted, but he never is. He is the very epitome of untiring earnestness. My Beloved, you and I, on the other hand should be moved to an equal degree of incessant industry in this bitter warfare on earth in which Satan is raging, to serving God continually in prayer and praises, because “the night comes when no man can work” (John 9.4).
So, I urge you, quicken your diligence by the evil example of the Prince of Darkness. Will his evil encompass the whole earth while the children of God creep about prayer-less? God forbid! I entreat you, my Brethren, awake out of your sleep and see the terrible wrath of the old Dragon and then “be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of the dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the whole armor of God (now) that the day of evil (has now) come, so you may be able to stand your ground…and pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers…and always keep on praying!” (Ephesians 6.10-18).
The shortness of Satan’s opportunity stirs his wrath. In proportion as the devil’s time is shortened, so his anger is increased. When he rages uttermost, his opportunities are nearly over. Satan has unleased his demonic pestilences in great wrath bringing debilitating fear upon all the nations knowing that his time is short. We must not think things are going wrong because the power of the devil becomes strong in the world today as we see it to be in this last hour. Yes, the tares are ripening but it is because the wheat is ripening and Christ’s Harvest of His people is taking place rapidly and mightily! Christ is completing His church in preparation for His soon coming in the clouds to take us out of this death-doomed earth. True, daily the world becomes more corrupt by Satan’s flood of lies and deception, but Christ’s church is being made to become without spot, wrinkle or blemish in preparation for the ‘Marriage of the Lamb!”
The swift development and great increase of this present evil prevailing in the world is an assured indication that there is a greater development of God’s good and Truth in the Kingdom. The darkest time of night is right before the dawning of the day. Even so, when evil is at its height, it is nearest to its fall. When the satanic lie becomes exceedingly bold as it is now so that it struts in a brazen front by the Liar, “the Father of Lies” in his deceit and delusion, ---then it is that Truth is made bare by the right arm of God!
So, Beloved, do not, therefore, dread the coming of Satan’s even greater opposition, or the apparent increase in the power of evil that already exists in the world, for it will be seen that the devil rages all the more because his empire of evil is nearer to its end. In the very last hour Satan is going about to deceive the nations it seems as if the Truth of God is utterly extinguished in this world, but in that dread hour the Lord will triumph gloriously and He will smite His adversaries in their final overthrow. Then also will the shout be heard, “Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigns” (Revelation 19.6). On the greatest possible scale, the present magnitude of Satan’s wrath, mayhem, havoc, destruction and prevailing evil, is a sure prophecy of the end of his reign and “the devil that deceived them be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20.10).
While the need for deliverance from evil will notably increase in these darkening times of the last hour, the abundance of salvation will increase with it. Christian! you do not need to fear the direst of all wars, the bitterest of all famines, the deadliest of all pestilences, because the Lord has pledged to deliver us if we call upon Him in prayer. “Whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered” (Joel 2.32).
In the worst times that can ever happen, when day turns to night and life becomes death, when famine rules the land and the hope of man has fled, there still remains in God, in the person of His dear Son Jesus Christ, deliverance! --to all who will call upon the name of the Lord. We do not know what is going to happen. Looking into the near future, I prophesy dark things. God’s Word of Promise meets the most terrible of possibilities with a sure and eternal salvation. God’s Promise stands firm, no matter what may be hidden in the present deepening darkness. Plagues may be poured out as quickly as the plagues of Egypt, but “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered” (Acts 2.21).
In the very midst of this present devastation on earth, let us cry to our Father that His Holy Spirit would set an afflation harp in the window of our souls so that the winds of heaven may play sweet melody to accompany the hardest or humblest task we may be called upon the perform throughout this coming year. And that the spiritual love of Christ will make worship music within our hearts and enable us to rejoice even in our sorrows as this malodourous world rapidly descends into utter darkness.
Oh! Let us abound in God’s love that is poured into our hearts and is shed abroad by the Holy Spirit upon all saints for whom Jesus Christ makes His unceasing intercession. Let us offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving that we may magnify His ineffable Glory! AMEN.
