Dear Friend, This past week was a rough one. Between the ongoing disaster in Afghanistan and our neighbors to the West being hit by a Cat 5 storm, being optimistic seems next to impossible. That said, I noticed an ongoing theme in the news this week – community. Whether it’s in our own backyard, a few states over, or in another country, our district knows how to show up and support others. The kindness shown by you all when faced with adversity is admirable and I’m grateful for all of you. Here are a few examples of the kindness you’ve shown this week -- | In the Big Bend, Liberty County Sheriff's Office, Emergency Management, the Blountstown Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, and small businesses from Franklin County are collecting donations from the community to take to communities in Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Ida. Several are returning the favor to communities who helped them clean up after Hurricane Michael. Read more here. | On Saturday, the House of Henry in Panama City honored the 13 servicemen killed in the attack at Kabul airport. The restaurant, in the downtown area, set aside a booth that was reserved throughout the whole night for the service members. The staff decided to fill 13 beer glasses to honor the service of each of the troops. This is such a kind gesture and one that many in our military community appreciate. Read more here. | The Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief of Florida was recently at Lydia Baptist Church in Dixie County with more than 100 volunteers helping families during this flooding crisis. The disaster relief group removed furniture and belongings for Dixie and Taylor County families and tackled mold after the flooding had gone down.
