Dear Friend, In the next few weeks, students from throughout our district will graduate and enter their next chapter. This is an outstanding accomplishment when you consider that these students have persevered through a pandemic, and many also persevered through a devastating storm. I hope they never have to face these obstacles again; however, they now have plenty of experience to overcome anything that comes their way in the future. Congratulations to the Class of 2021! We are proud of you! Please take a moment to read a few other good news stories from our district -- | Brandon Meckelberg, an Aspen Dental dentist in Tallahassee, was featured on Good Morning America last week because videos that his wife Sarah secretly posted of him singing have racked up millions of views in less than a year. Looking ahead, Brandon said he would love for music to turn into a second career, giving him another outlet to make people happy, which is ultimately what drives him. Read more here. | Since Hurricane Michael, Grady McDaniel and his family have had many of their belongings in storage and lived with different family members. Thanks to the partnership of several generous organizations and Gulf County, the McDaniels have moved into a one-story, three-bedroom house. By the end of this month, there will be 41 brand-new homes dedicated to families who have also lost their safe place after the hurricane. Thank you to all involved! Read more here. | Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed a bill designating a 10-day period where you can purchase qualifying disaster preparedness supplies exempt from tax during the 2021 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. The holiday begins on Friday, May 28th and lasts until Sunday, June 6th. This is an excellent opportunity to stock up on batteries, flashlights, water, first aid supplies, and unperishable foods.
