MARYLAND - Howard County

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE CITIZENS OF HOWARD COUNTY

"If we fail to turn-in the petition signatures by March 5th, our campaign to Repeal Sanctuary County ends right here.

We have enough signatures.

We don't have enough money to vet and prepare the signature petitions for turn-in on March 5th.

This is crunch time.

Can you make a quick donation of $25, $50, or $150 right now?

Once we turn in this final batch of petition signatures, the Board of Elections can put Sanctuary County on the Howard County ballot in 2022 and voters, not the politicians, will decide whether Howard is a sanctuary for illegal immigrants or not.

That's it. The finish line is within sight"

"Thanks for your support. I know you know how important this is."

Lisa Kim
Chair
Citizens For A Strong and Safe Howard County

P.S.: Please share this email with your friends and family, and encourage them to make a donation. Repealing Sanctuary County will require a total team effort.

ACTION ALERT  WEDNESDAY MARCH 3 - ANNAPOLIS HEARING

Three sanctuary bills are being heard on Wednesday in Annapolis and we need everyone's help to keep them from being passed out of committee.

Please adapt the following three emails with your own names/addresses and send before 1:30PM on Wednesday, March 3!

Also be sure to copy and paste the list of email addresses (below) for the House Judiciary Committee into the "to" line.

The three bill numbers are HB 16, HB 304, and HB 750. If you are pressed for time, at least do HB 304, which is the main Sanctuary State bill and which we have successfully defeated year after year thanks to people like you saying "NO!"

#1
HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE HB 16 "DIGNITY NOT DETENTION ACT"-OPPOSED

Dear House Judiciary Committee:

My name is (INSERT NAME ), and I have been a resident of Maryland for (INSERT NUMBER) years. I am writing in opposition to HB 16, the "Dignity Not Detention Act."

Private immigration detention facilities generally meet higher standards than local jails or prisons. If illegal aliens cannot be detained in private facilities in Maryland, they will just be held in other states, further from their lawyers and any family. Private detention facilities provide both jobs and a federal income stream to local communities that want them. Adopting a "one-size-fits-all" policy statewide would take that away from those communities.

The number one priority of government is to keep its citizens safe. That includes keeping them safe from criminal illegal aliens. So it does not make sense to tie the hands of law enforcement agencies when it is their job to keep criminals off the streets. Less places to lock up criminals is bad public policy. I therefore request that you vote against HB 16.

Sincerely,

#2
HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE HB 304 "PARTICIPATION IN FEDERAL IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT"-OPPOSED

My name is (INSERT NAME ), and I have lived in Maryland for (INSERT NUMBER) years. I am writing in opposition to HB 304. This bill would turn Maryland into one of the most egregious sanctuary states in the country. This bill would prevent cooperation and information-sharing between local officials and federal immigration authorities. One of the lessons of 9/11 was the detrimental effect this lack of cooperation has on national security. A number of the hijackers were illegal aliens who had subverted our immigration laws.

HB 304 would prohibit agreements such as the 287g program, which provides a safe method of detaining criminal illegal aliens in local jails until ICE officers can secure the individuals for deportation. Sanctuary policies conflict with federal law, including the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. Sanctuary policies also insult legal immigrants who respect our laws and patiently waited for years and paid thousands of dollars to come to the United States the right way. Finally, states that implement sanctuary policies become a magnet for more illegal immigration, which in turn results in higher costs of living, reduced job availability, lower wages, and higher crime costs.

In the summer of 2019, shortly after Montgomery County expanded its sanctuary policies, a series of heinous sex crimes perpetrated by illegal aliens against women and children shocked the nation. All of these crimes were 100 percent preventable. Time and time again, criminal illegal aliens are released back into the public instead of handed over to ICE. Once free, these criminals continue to commit crimes. Not surprisingly, most of these new crimes are perpetrated back in the communities in which these illegal aliens reside, immigrant communities. The only beneficiaries of these laws are the criminals. The number one priority of government is to keep its citizens safe. HB 304 would do just the opposite. I therefore request that you vote against HB 304.

Sincerely,

HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE HB 750 "RIGHT TO COUNCIL IN IMMIGRATION PROCEEDINGS COORDINATOR" -OPPOSED

My name is (INSERT NAME), and I have lived in Maryland for (INSERT NUMBER) years. I am writing in opposition to HB 750. This bill would set up a full-time taxpayer-funded office to provide legal representation to illegal aliens facing deportation. This legislation is in direct contravention to federal law, which only allows illegal aliens to retain counsel at their own expense or pro bono. While federal law provides legal representation for criminal prosecutions, deportation is a civil administrative procedure.

This bill is therefore unfair to citizens and legal immigrants who must pay out of pocket for civil legal issues such as foreclosure and eviction proceedings.  In a time of budget cutting during the pandemic, it is astounding that the Maryland legislature would even consider this outlay on behalf of illegal aliens. Additional costs in this bill would be incurred due to the requirement for extensive educational efforts to make sure illegal aliens know that this free legal aid is available to them. Illegal aliens residing in Maryland who are in another state when facing deportation will also receive this financial aid. The legislation even provides "a stipend to a designated community group to facilitate coordination between out-of-state legal representation and the covered individual's family members!"

In conclusion, HB 750 is an affront to the rights and pocketbooks of Maryland citizens and legal residents. I therefore request that you vote against HB 750.

Sincerely,
