This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio
On Wednesday, I requested a briefing on cyber security from the Department of Homeland Security’s Acting Secretary Chad Wolf after Miami-Dade County Public Schools announced that its virtual learning platform was the target of 12 cyberattacks. Read more here.
On Thursday, I urged the Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Alberto Carvalho, to take advantage of federal resources available to assist in the school system’s efforts to secure its networks, including virtual classrooms, after it fell victim to cyberattacks earlier in the week. On Tuesday, I issued a statement after the United States Trade Representative, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Agriculture released a report in response to the economic harm Florida’s seasonal and perishable produce growers have experienced as a result of Mexico’s unfair trade practices. On Tuesday, I joined Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), and Senate colleagues in sending a letter to the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) urging them to fully implement two aviation workforce grant programs that were authorized in the 2018 FAA Reauthorization bill. These innovative programs will help to develop much-needed workforce training in the aviation industry, helping the industry to partner with local governments, schools, and labor groups to provide training. On Wednesday, as Acting Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I released a statement after the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced key reforms that will empower the FBI to build a more robust internal compliance program and that will ensure, among other things, the accuracy of FISA applications, as well as the active oversight of applications targeting federal elected officials, candidates for federal elected office, and their staffs.
