FLORIDA - SENATOR MARCO RUBIO eNEWSLETTER 03/27/2020

This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio

On Wednesday, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, I applauded the passage of the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a $2 trillion emergency relief package to help Americans impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Importantly, the CARES Act includes my Keeping American Workers Paid and Employed Act , a bipartisan small business emergency economic relief plan that provides more than $377 billion for small businesses to meet their payroll and expenses and receive education and assistance throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, it provides provisions for the healthcare and airline industries, higher education and nutrition programs, unemployment assistance, and assistance for individual U.S. residents. Read more about the CARES Act here and a list of its critical provisions for Florida here.

On Wednesday, I delivered a speech on the Senate floor expressing the urgency for the Senate to act quickly to pass the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act in order to provide economic relief to Americans suffering as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Shortly after my speech, the Senate passed the CARES Act by a vote of 96 to 0. Watch the full speech here.

On Monday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I urged President Trump to approve Governor Ron DeSantis’ request that a major disaster declaration be issued for Florida as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. On Wednesday, the President responded by approving the declaration, making available much needed resources for Florida’s fight against the virus. Read more here.

On Sunday, I spoke on the Senate floor regarding the Keeping American Workers Paid and Employed Act , my bipartisan plan which provides economic relief to small businesses and American workers affected by the coronavirus. Watch the full speech here.

On Thursday, I issued the following statement after Attorney General William Barr, U.S. Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan of the Southern District of Florida, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman of the Southern District of New York, and Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division formally indicted Venezuelan narco-dictator Nicolás Maduro and members of his inner circle for crimes ranging from money laundering and corruption to conspiring with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization– to transport cocaine into the United States and American communities. Read more here.

On Sunday, I joined Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo to discuss the impact of the coronavirus on small businesses. Watch the full interview here.

On Monday, I joined Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Mitt Romney (R-UT), members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, in sending a letter to President Trump requesting the creation of a task force under the National Security Council (NSC) to counter propaganda emanating from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) surrounding COVID-19. Read more here.

On Wednesday, I issued the following statement on the reported death of Florida constituent and former FBI Agent Bob Levinson, who was the longest held hostage in American history. Read more here.

On Thursday, I joined Fox News’s Neil Cavuto to further discuss my bipartisan small business emergency economic relief plan. Watch the full interview here.
