NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend,
Last week, I was honored to receive the Air Force Association's Florida Legislator of the Year Award. I visited Naval Support Activity Panama City with Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations and Environment Lucian Niemeyer. I traveled back to Washington, D.C. for our legislative week and met with the Florida Municipal Electric Association and the Florida Credit Union Association. I ended the week on a great note and called Suwannee High School student, Antonio White, to notify him of his appointment to West Point. Please read about my week below: Air Force Association Florida Legislator of the Year Last week, I was honored to receive the Air Force Association's award for Florida Legislator of the Year at the international 2020 Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando. The Air Force Association promotes unparalleled readiness and capability for the U.S. Air Force. It focuses on future readiness and maximizing the capabilities of all our Airmen. It was a great privilege to receive this award. Tyndall Air Force Base is home to top-of-the-line Airmen carrying out critical national missions. The well-being of their families and the support of the surrounding communities is of paramount importance to the missions there. While Hurricane Michael caused extensive damage, Tyndall has seen remarkable recovery and will be the most capable Air Base in the USAF inventory in the near future. Naval Support Activity (NSA) Panama City Visit On Monday, I visited Naval Support Activity Panama City (NSA PC) with the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy Lucian Niemeyer. NSA PC has undergone extensive recovery efforts since Hurricane Michael and continues to provide a wide range of critical missions. Assistant Secretary Niemeyer and I toured the base and witnessed the recovery efforts and discussed potential new future missions. NSA PC and its missions are critical to the entire Navy. It is vigorously supported by the entire community and leaders like Assistant Secretary Niemeyer who is taking a special interest in leveraging the base's current capabilities. The recovery process is gaining momentum and the future of NSA PC looks bright. I thank Mr. Niemeyer for joining me. Meeting with Florida Municipal Electric Association Last week, I enjoyed meeting with Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) members from Ocala and Tallahassee. We discussed the critical reimbursement process for disaster relief for Hurricane Michael. The member utilities of FMEA do great work to protect our power in good times and bad and I look forward to continuing to work with them. Academy Day Reminder [Click on the photo above for information on this year's Academy Day] Meeting with Florida Credit Union Association It was a pleasure to sit down with members of the Florida Credit Union Association. We discussed data and cybersecurity issues, as well as the importance of protecting consumers' account information. Student Antonio White Receives Appointment to West Point On Friday, I had special news to share with Antonio White, a student at Suwannee High School. It was a pleasure to inform him that he received an appointment to West Point! It is one of my greatest pleasures as a Member of Congress to inform constituents when they receive an appointment to any of our military academies. This is a world class education and one of the most competitive academic appointments in the world. Congratulations, Antonio! Great job! [Click on the photo above to watch the video of Antonio receiving news of his appointment] Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. Constituent Casework CornerAfter a veteran passed away, the family contacted my office when they could not locate their loved one’s DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, needed to confirm qualification for military honors. My office was able to work with the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) to get the family a copy of the veteran’s DD-214 in less then 48 hours.
